On August 28th, 1929, Roxie Roker was born in Miami, Florida. Roxie Roker attended Howard University and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1952. While at Howard, she was an active member in the Howard Players and was featured in several productions. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

On August 27th, 1963, W.E.B. DuBois joins the the Ancestors. He was an American civil rights activist, leader, Pan-Africanist, sociologist, educator, historian, writer, editor, poet, and scholar. He became a naturalized citizen of Ghana in 1963 at the age of 95...

On August 28th, 1952, Rita Dove was born in Akron, Ohio. She is the daughter of one of the first black chemists in the tire industry. Dove was encouraged to read widely by her parents, and excelled in school.

Great African in Our-Story:
August 27th, 1969, Chandra Wilson was born. Chandra Wilson began performing in musicals at the age of five with Theatre Under the Stars. She attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and later went on to acquire her BFA in Drama from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts through which she spent four years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.
