2015 Meeting: Science and Future of Gemini

The Gemini community and observatory are beginning planning for next year’s triennial science and user meeting.  The 2015 international meeting will have a particular focus on consolidating plans for the future of Gemini. Over the next year, you will hear from representatives of your own community soliciting your opinion and we encourage you to please participate and provide your input. Members of the Gemini Board, STAC, UCG, and NGOs are involved in the meeting planning, which is slated for mid-2015 in the Toronto, Canada area. Dates and venue will be finalized soon!

FLAMINGOS-2 on Gemini South

FLAMINGOS-2 is back on sky after work to repair the dekker wheel. Queue observations of imaging programs have been resumed, guided with the telescope peripheral wave front sensor. For the moment, the K-band internal background is higher than normal, because the gate valve baffle is not positioning properly. Until additional work is scheduled, spectroscopy observations will continue but be limited to shorter wavelengths (using the JH and R3000 grisms, in the JH, Y, J, and H bands).

Updated PIT for Poor-Weather Proposals

Please use the latest 2014B Phase I Tool (PIT) when submitting poor-weather proposals - which can be submitted at any time. This will allow the inclusion of targets spanning the semester boundary without target visibility errors. See the PIT version table for more details: http://www.gemini.edu/node/11083.
