Corsham Walking Festival - Newsletter

This newsletter goes out to the 500+ people who subscribed via our Website or have taken part in one of our Walking Festivals.

Originally set up to give information about the Walking Festival, over the last couple of years we have expanded the content of the newsletter to include details of other walking opportunities in the Corsham Area plus news of general interest to the walking community.  If there is anything you would like us to include in future editions please get in touch.

Currently we send out the newsletter monthly - so that the list of walks taking place can be kept up to date.  Inevitably as we get closer to the Festival weekend there will be some additional emails - but we try to keep this to a minimum so that you don't feel that you are being bombarded with "spam" email.  I can confirm that we do not pass on your details to any other organisations.

I hope you find these newsletters useful - you can of course unsubscribe at any time by using the link at the end of the email.

Corsham Walking Festival 2017

Thank you to everybody who helped make this year's Walking Festival our most successful ever.  Aided by favourable walking conditions, 335 walkers took part in 18 walks over the three days and 100 people attended the Quiz and Buffet on the Saturday evening.  There was a real buzz about the Festival for the whole weekend - starting with putting up displays on the Thursday evening at the Springfield Campus amid a stream of general election voters!

Despite the distraction of the general election results on Friday, the opening of the Festival by Corsham's own para-Olympian, Stephanie Millward MBE, still managed to make the local news.  As usual the chance to be photographed wearing an Olympic gold medal proved irresistible for many of those attending the ceremony!

The general election was never far from peoples' minds during the weekend and it was no surprise that the winning team in the Quiz - and recipient of the Golden Boots - were "Slightly Less Weak and Wobbly".

To see photos from the weekend - and a link to the video about the Festival made by Corsham TV please go to our
website or like us on Facebook.

While on the subject of Facebook, our
Facebook page now has 240 people who 'Like' the page.  It has proved a useful way of sharing walking, local news and festival updates. However, it would be even better if people could communicate with each other on Facebook and share their interest in local walking and post photos.  We have therefore decided to change our Facebook presence from a Page to a Group.  This would enable several people to be 'Admins' and get involved with Corsham Walking Festival.  If you use Facebook and are interested in getting involved, please contact us on:  web@corshamwalkingfestival.org.uk.

The verbal feedback immediately on completion of the walks has been very positive - including from those returning after the 20 mile walks on Saturday and Sunday!  Our post Festival survey has been running for the last two weeks and will close on Tuesday 4 July.  We really value your feedback, so if you would like to complete the survey (it only takes a couple of minutes) but no longer have the email with the link please get in contact and I will resend.  The Committee will be reviewing the feedback at its next meeting on 13 July and I hope to be able to give a summary in the next newsletter.

The Corsham Cloverleaf

Our display on The Corsham Cloverleaf attracted lots of attention over the Festival weekend with a number of people asking to be involved in its development.  Now that the Festival is over, we will be forming a group to take this work forward.  We can always do with more volunteers, so if you are interested in helping in any capacity please get in touch.

Walking Opportunities

The Corsham area provides walking opportunities all year round - whether self guided or with a local group.  The Corsham Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre in Corsham High Street both have a small selection of booklets of local walks available for purchase and in addition there are a number of on line resources.

If you would like to walk with a local group then details can be found on the Visit Corsham website or downloaded here.  You are sure to receive a warm welcome.  If you do not walk regularly with the relevant group, it is advisable to contact them beforehand so they are aware of likely numbers on the walk.
