Corsham Walking Festival - Annual General Meeting

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting at 1930 on Thursday 5 October 2017 in The Methuen Arms, Corsham.  Please come along and hear about our work during 2017, our plans for Corsham Walking Festival 2018 as well as other projects such as The Corsham Cloverleaf.

As we start the planning for our fifth Festival, we have decided that it is about time that we put the operation of the Festival on to a more formal footing.  One of the items on the Agenda is to approve the Constitution which we have been developing over the summer.  If you have any comments on the Constitution please contact the Chair.

One of the key features of the Constitution is that it establishes that membership of the Festival is by becoming a Friend of the Corsham Walking Festival.  This is to distinguish between those people who have indicated that they wish to be involved in the running of the Festival, and the much larger number who receive this monthly newsletter.  More details on how to check whether you are one of the 80 people registered as a Friend or to change your status will be included in the next newsletter.

Several long serving members of the Committee have stood down so we are seeking some volunteers to join the Committee.
The current status of nominations is as follows:
  • Chair: Kevin Wilson
  • Treasurer: Pete Smith
  • Publicity: Barry Cox
  • Walks: Sarah Keevil & Gill Fox
  • Sales: Ian Rooney
  • Entertainment: Tom & Margaret Winskill
  • Opening Ceremony:  Elma Lawer
  • Website & Social Media: Viki Hess
  • WaW: Vacant
  • Town Council: Councillors Ray LeVar & Neil Pocock
  • Grants & Sponsors: Vacant
We would particularly like to fill the Walkers are Welcome post to revitalise our commitment to the Walkers are Welcome network.  The role focuses on supporting tourism by promoting the year round walking activities taking place in the Corsham Area.  The Grants and Sponsors post involves liaising with local business and organisations to increase their involvement in, and support for, the Festival weekend.

In addition to these existing posts, we are looking to establish two new roles this year.  The first is to lead the team of volunteers developing the Corsham Cloverleaf and the second is to coordinate the HQ arrangements - including the programme of supporting events that we are planning for the Festival weekend at the Springfield Campus.

If you would be interested in joining the Committee or want to know more about any of the roles please get in touch with any Committee member - contact details are on the
website.

If you have any more items for the Agenda please forward them to the Chair by 15 September.  A reminder for the AGM will be included in the October newsletter and updates will appear on our
website and Facebook page.

Walking Opportunities

The Corsham area provides walking opportunities all year round - whether self guided or with a local group.  The Corsham Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre in Corsham High Street both have a small selection of booklets of local walks available for purchase and in addition there are a number of on line resources.

If you would like to walk with a local group then details can be found on the Visit Corsham website or downloaded here.  You are sure to receive a warm welcome.  If you do not walk regularly with the relevant group, it is advisable to contact them beforehand so they are aware of likely numbers on the walk.

Don't forget that the Bradford on Avon Walking Festival starts today (1st September) and there are still a few places available on selected walks.  For those who like to have an added reason to walk, there are details of two charity walks taking place in September in support of Julian House and Chippenham Rotary Club
