Palette Talk

August 2014

President's Letter

We are entering into an intense period of activity. To be most effective, we are prioritizing our activities in order to achieve success moving forward with our goals and renewed mission.

The new Online Gallery is underway and you will receive an announcement shortly when it goes live on our website. Planning for the online juried open exhibition is also making rapid progress. By the end of this month, we will complete the final selection of grants that we will be applying for with Ostara Group.

Searching for new exhibition venues and meeting spaces is an ongoing project. The scholarship program is also rapidly approaching in September. All these projects require more active participation by members - continuing to grow membership and boost committee involvement is one of our primary priorities and a longterm concern.

While there are other activities still going on for present action, there is a need and desire to contemplate and discuss how we are doing and what we want to accomplish now and in the future. Being part of an organization is not static, it is a vibrant and living activity.

These comments apply, not only to PSG, but also to the members and our careers in the arts. They are not separate from each other.

Looking forward to the upcoming programs and events together.

Phillip Levine
PSG Board President

Joe Mac Kechnie attended Ned Mueller's Plein Air Workshop and wrote about his experience on our blog. Ned had 15 artists in tow, taking us to Fall City (day 1), Roselyn (day 2) and Gold Creek near Snoqualmie Pass (day 3). Because of Ned’s popularity, excellent oil painting skills and teaching abilities, several workshop students came from as far away as Tucson AZ, southern California and distant parts of the NW/Puget sound area. Read more on the blog and also catch Ned in action with three short videos that Joe filmed!
Ned Mueller, Master Signature Artist with Oil Painters of America, just received the Award of Excellence for Golden Meadow - Beartooth Range. For the first time in OPA history, OPA’s Master Signature artists and leaders of the art community had the unprecedented opportunity to come together collectively to showcase their finest work as a part of the  "First In the World Master Signature Exhibition” being held at Mountainsong Galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea, July 25 - August 24, 2014.

Committees On The Move

Historical Committee

David Spangler pitched a historical video project to The Art Institute of Seattle Revolution Innovation Studio and they chose PSG for their summer session class project! There are seven talented video and still photography students in the class under Michael Ramey.

The students were very all interested in the history of PSG, the paint outs, the auctions and stage productions, how we grew and changed with the Pacific Northwest. They are appreciative that their school is an off shoot of PSG members who taught at or were students of the Burney School. The still photographers are eager to create a series of artist portraits.

The end product will be a 4-5 minute video along with still photographs about the eighty-six year history of the group looking to the future. The first priority of the project is to interview Life Members in order to preserve their memories of the group and celebrate their life as an artist. Besides focusing on fine arts we are interested in the contributions of the members in commercial art and arts education. We will also be individually contacting Life Members to do individual interviews in their studios. Read more about David's project on our blog.
