Palette Talk

January 2015

President's Letter

Welcome new Board members and Special Advisors: Kristine Udall (PLLC, Estate Planning), Randall Southam (Southam Creative) and Treasurer, Gary Gumble. This is an exciting year for PSG. With expanded board and consultants, we have positioned ourselves to reach beyond our borders and into the community to engage and cultivate new relationships.

This month we celebrate 40 new student members with 16 participating statewide schools. With the support of our new relationship with Seattle University’s MFA in Arts Leadership program, interns Taylor Apfelbaum and Cynthia Baiz are working for credit on behalf of SU for PSG to expand our member and patron base, looking for new ways to communicate and cultivate connections. Sadie Sullivan continues to intern on behalf of Western Washington University in digital media, alongside Julia Fryett in Marketing.

Our focus for this year is to double our membership, cultivate relationships with new patrons and reach out into the community to develop partnerships to improve our visibility through exhibition and fundraising programs. The auction is scheduled this fall with the Seattle Yacht Club and task force has been working hard to come up with innovative ideas for fundraising to make this program a success. With expanded staff, board and member involvement we have the potential to meet our strategic services and fundraising goals.

Member participation is the lifeblood of the association. Please consider how you can get engaged with your organization. Our fundraising goals, new exhibition venues and Artist Salon series will be as fruitful as you can contribute. The PSG Board of Directors is committed to increasing member value and services but we need you, to continue moving forward. Meet our new Strategic Partnerships consultant, Medlody Kadlub-Barr at our next meeting with guest Margaret Minnick, February 18 at Hales Ales, Ballard, from 6:00 - 8:30pm.

Be sure to look for the new PSG Member Roster in your email soon - another communication tool to help you reach out to members within your neighborhood. The roster will be updated twice yearly, for your convenience!

We encourage you to make use of the website and get to know our new contractors and Board Of Directors. We’d love to hear from you! This is your website!

Margaret Minnick hosts a conversation about the value of art, from the perspective of an appraiser.

TOPICS: What factors affect value?  How does an appraiser make monetary valuations?  What can you do to assist an appraiser (and those who collect your work)?  What factors can boost marketability for your work?

Drawing from her experience as an art appraiser for fifteen years, Margaret will focus on what she's gleaned about monetary values and works of art. She'll discuss what factors affect her determination when she has to evaluate a work for an estate, insurance or donation appraisal report.  She'll share examples of various media from both well-known artists as well as those who are more obscure.
