UCPL receives grant to purchase new computers and RFID checkout assistance technology
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant to purchase new computers! The grant will allow us to replace the five public computers that are currently in use at our temporary location, as well as several staff PCs.
Additionally, the grant has funded the purchase of five RFID antennas, which we will soon be using to check out books, DVDs, and other materials. These antennas should speed up the checkout process while helping us keep better track of the items in our collection. In November, we introduced a new RFID-based self-check machine at our temporary location, which allows patrons to check out a stack of three or four books all in one go! Keep an eye out for that and give it a whirl the next time you come into the Library.
These technologies are supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Renovation update: basement and parking lot are done; meeting rooms, painting, and fixtures up next!
Since our last update, some major work has been accomplished at 6701 Delmar! Contractors have finished work on the library basement, which will allow us to start moving some storage materials and non-public items over to the building soon. Just before Thanksgiving, the new parking lot was finished, after regrading and re-striping (top left). In the photos above, you'll see the view of the gallery and upstairs meeting rooms (top right), which are still awaiting finishing and a drop ceiling. Also pictured are the beginnings of the new laptop bar and copy station (bottom left) and tile that is being installed in the gallery bathrooms (bottom right).
Next up, contractors will be putting up the walls for the new first-floor meeting rooms, continuing to paint, and beginning to install fixtures throughout the building. Visit www.ucitylibrary.org/renovation-news for more information, including a look back to the beginning of the process.

Storytimes shift to online only for the winter
As the weather gets colder, we're temporarily suspending our in-person outdoor storytimes. We'll get back to in-person storytimes when the weather warms up in the spring. But never fear — we're posting new storytime videos to our YouTube channel every week!
