We've rescheduled! Join us Wednesday, Aug. 17 for an outdoor movie night featuring Whale Rider

whale rider movie poster     Join us outside and in person for a family-friendly movie night at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17! This rescheduled movie screening will take place in the parking lot of our temporary location at 6900 Delmar Blvd.
This award-winning 2002 film focuses on the Whangara people of eastern New Zealand, who believe their presence there dates back a thousand years or more to a single ancestor, Paikea, who escaped death when his canoe capsized by riding to shore on the back of a whale. From then on, Whangara chiefs, always the first-born, always male, have been considered Paikea’s direct descendants. But 11-year-old Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes) believes she is destined to be the new chief. Written and directed by Niki Caro, Whale Rider is a contemporary story of love, tradition, rejection, and triumph.
