It's Time for Some
Courageous Conversations

Friend, I am so excited to invite you to to the first event of Awake's new online speaker series! We're calling this ongoing series "Courageous Conversations with Awake Milwaukee," and we begin next Thursday evening, December 10 at 7:00pm.
We want these events to be more than just an educational presention. Our goal is to build community, deepen understanding, and encourage conversation about the complex issues surrounding sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. We're not going to shy away from difficult topics, because we believe it's time for all of us to be brave, dive deep, and wrestle with the hard stuff.  (But don't worry, no one is going to force you to talk, and you can remain completely anonymous if you prefer.)

I am grateful to Fr. Daniel Griffith for agreeing to offer a presentation for this inaugural event. Over the past two years, I have watched a LOT of speakers address topics related to the abuse crisis, and I have to say, Fr. Griffith has been one of the very best at speaking honestly and clearly about these challenging issues. I can't wait for you to hear his reflections, and we'll make sure to leave plenty of time at the end for you to raise questions and consider action steps for moving forward.

I really hope you can join us next Thursday! Please check out the information below, register here to receive the Zoom link, and I will see you then!

As knowledge about trauma recovery has grown, mental health experts have developed an array of tools that can help survivors heal.

To learn more about some of the tools and techniques available to aid survivors, we spoke with Patricia Gallagher Marchant, MSW, LCSW, a Milwaukee-based psychotherapist with more than 35 years of experience working with survivors of a range of traumatic experiences. These include grief and loss in relationships, health crises, physical abuse, and child sexual abuse. Marchant understands this work on a deeply personal level; she is a survivor of clergy sexual abuse, sexually assaulted by a Catholic priest in her home parish when she was just eight years old"...

Thank you for your continued commitment to joining Awake in prayer!
As always, we ask you to pray for all survivors of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, especially those who are suffering most right now.

We would also appreciate your prayers for the success of Awake's current fundraising campaign. Could you please say a prayer that Awake is able to connect with those who feel called to financially support our work? We believe in our mission more than ever, and we're trusting that God will provide the resources to make our work sustainable in 2021 - and beyond.
