Autism Ontario invites you to the Autism Reality Experince.
The Autism Reality Experience is an innovative, hands on training session in a specially set up mobile unit which has been developed to give people an experience of the sensory processing difficulties faced by people on the autism spectrum. The experience is fully immersive, interactive and a must for anyone who is involved in supporting people on the autism spectrum.
Sensory processing difficulties are very common among people on the autism spectrum and this can have a profound impact on a person's ability to manage with day to day living. The experience itself enables beneficiaries to experience what sensory overload can be like by the use of specialist equipment and a simulated environment. All learners will be required to carry some basic tasks as well as manage the effects of sensory overload.
Each participant will go through a video demonstration that will tap into their emotional and physical sensory systems. Individuals will be provided gloves and head phones while watching a video, and then perform a number of tasks after the video is over. They cannot ask any questions or ask for assistance. “Noises, lights, and overwhelming reactions”
Each demonstration will last approximately 15 minutes and allows for 2 people at a time to go through.  A short debrief will take place after.
