Companies invited to join US trade missions 

Food & drink, advanced manufacturing and automotive companies are being invited to join trade missions to the US as part of a Midlands Engine initiative which aims to boost economic growth across the Midlands.

This is a unique opportunity for Marches companies to take part in the inaugural Midlands Engine trade and investment mission, led by the Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills.

Three missions will visit Chicago, Detroit and Toronto.

Marches LEP launches bid for £68m for homes and jobs 

A bid for nearly £68m of Government funding has been submitted to support projects which could create more than 7,000 jobs and 2,850 new homes in the region.

The 11 proposed projects across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin could also see nearly 50 hectares of employment land opened up and more than 250,000m of commercial floor space made available over the next 10 years.

The LEP is competing with 38 other local enterprise partnerships across England for a slice of £1.8 billion of Growth Deal funding. If successful, the funding would be matched by more than £75m from the organisations and private sector partners delivering the projects. More... 

New business on Enterprise Zone to create more jobs  
A fast growing firm that manufactures and supplies specialist medical equipment is on course to create more jobs following a move to new premises on Skylon Park, the Marches LEP’s designated Enterprise Zone in Hereford.

MedDX Solutions, which supplies diagnostic sample collection and transport kits to the public and private healthcare sector, has become the first occupier of the £1.6m Skylon Place development on Hursey Road in Rotherwas.

The company, which began in 2013, relocated to Skylon Place from premises just outside Hereford with 12 employees. There are plans to recruit a further eight people before the end of the year. Full story...

Businesses are being urged to apply for grants of up to £200,000 which are now available for Marches businesses following the launch of a 33m funding scheme. Read more...
