Launch call for European funding

Organisations behind Marches projects to promote economic growth in the region are being invited to apply for a share of than £11 million of European funding.

Applications are being invited for projects which focus on four themes identified in the Marches European and Structural Investment Strategy – a plan developed by the region's Local Enterprise Partnership following consultation with stakeholders, partners, the business community and the voluntary and charitable sector.
The maximum budgets per theme allocated to the launch call are: 

  • Research and Innovation - £3million
  • SME Competitiveness - £3million 
  • ICT - £2.6million 
  • Low Carbon - £2.5million

The application criteria are set out in the call templates available on the Government portal and there is an online application system.

Chairman of the Marches LEP, Graham Wynn OBE, opened the 2015 Partnership for Jobs Fair at the Telford International Centre which attracted around 2,000 people on March 18.

The event, organised by LEP's partner, Telford & Wrekin Council,  was attended by more than 60 employers. It was followed by a Skills Fair attended by youngsters from across the borough.

Countryside grants scheme launched

Grants available under countryside scheme 

Farmers, woodland owners and forestry contractors in the Marches can apply for grants under the Countryside Productivity Scheme.

The Countryside Productivity Scheme is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). 
A grant may cover up to 40% of the total eligible costs of the project. There are 2 types of grants: small grants and large grants. For more, click here

LEP supports new skills campaign 

The Ladder For Shropshire has been launched by the Shropshire Star newspaper in partnership with The Marches Skills Provider Network, Shropshire Council, and Telford & Wrekin Council.

It will bring together companies who are looking to introduce new blood to their workforces with young people who are hungry to start on a new career and the training providers who can ensure they have all the expertise they require.

Incubator hub fosters talent

A new Business Incubator hub has been launched at Walford and North Shropshire College. The main objectives of the Incubator are to foster and nurture young entrepreneurs and to expand on the spirit of enterprise societies throughout our community and the College.

Updating the Minister on broadband

Employers urged to sign up is the national information hub and knowledge sharing network for businesses interested in apprenticeships.

Employers can join Apprenticemakers to connect with other businesses that have been through the process and gain from their knowledge and experience of running an apprenticeship scheme.

And if  you’ve already run an apprenticeship scheme in your business, join for free to share your experience and top tips with those just starting out on the process.

WPD opens news centre at Zone

The chairman of Hereford’s Enterprise Zone has welcomed the completion of a major project on its flagship business park as a “significant milestone” in the development.

Chairman of the Enterprise Zone Board, Bill Jackson, said the new regional centre for electricity network company Western Power Distribution was the latest in a string of investments under way on the Skylon Park site. Full story...

Access to finance boosted

Funding Circle, a business oriented peer to peer lending platform, has signed onto a new partnership with the LEP's partner Herefordshire Council to launch a “pioneering” agreement.  

The new partnership is designed to boost local economic growth and job creation via improved access to business finance. More...
