Below is a Summary of the Branch Meeting held on 29th January 2014

Election of Branch President:  Jackie Grover was elected unanimously and took the chair for the rest of the meeting

It was agreed to affiliate to the National Pensioners Convention (East Midlands)

We will pay for new tops for the children who are helped by Kettering Children’s Holiday. Tops will have the union logo on them.
Youth Brass 2000 have agreed to play at this year’s Workers Memorial Day event.  We will continue to support them

One of our members, a former steward is seriously ill.  He is no longer being paid by his work.  It was agreed to make a donation to his family to help him during his illness.
Ray has booked the council chambers for Workers Memorial Day, it should be big enough to accommodate the band. We can still hold it outside if the weather is good. We should have a speaker from Labour Behind the Label, Bert Schouwenburg GMB International Officer and Andy Sawford MP as speakers.  This should be enough. It was undecided how many we should order the buffet for and who should supply it.  To be decided at the next meeting.
Presidents Report: Jackie said she had done her training as an accompanying rep and had represented 2 members successfully.  We now have 5 accompanying reps in the branch
Any Other Business:

The secretary presented Harry with a Liverpool FC polo shirt in recognition of his work for the branch.
Ray reported that the Northants Credit Union is opening a part time office in the cube in Corby.  It will be open a couple of hours a day.  They do have facilities in other parts of the county.  They offer an invaluable service for working people offering low interest rate loans as an alternative to companies such as Brighthouse and Wonga. It was agreed that we invite a speaker to a future meeting.  The GMB already has its own credit union: the Thorne Credit Union.
The next GMB Northants Community Branch Meeting is on Wednesday the 26th February 2014 at 7pm at Corby. Click HERE for more details.

Yours fraternally
