Sharing and preparing
Are any of the rest of you looking towards NHDD already? It's big news in MN as more and more communities are gearing up for the national event. I think having it be on a Saturday this year helps. We are trying something new here this year - a comedy show about end-of-life conversations, tentatively titled "The Life and Death Comedy Show." It's being staged by a Twin Cities legend, Stevie Ray, and we hope it will be a rousing success! We'll share more details as they emerge.
Another idea for NHDD which doesn't involve coming to Minneapolis is using a new film "Nine to Ninety" which focuses on one real-life story of decisions made with aging parents. I spent a good half-hour talking to the film's writer and director today and we will be promoting it in Minnesota. It will be airing around the country in 2016 - so far we know it's coming to Milwaukee Public Television, Alaska Public Television, and Twin Cities Public Television in January or February (we'll let you know exact dates as we hear them).
A note from Wisconsin:
Music Preferences are Important Part of Advance Care Planning
In their December newsletter, Honoring Choices Wisconsin published a very interesting article titled "Professor Shares Importance of Musical Preferences in Advance Directives." This interview with Dale B. Taylor, PhD, professor emeritus in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, provides insight into the importance of considering music selection when completing an advance care plan. This is especially important for those with dementia or Alzheimer's where music has a strong link to one's brain functions.
