MICHELLE, OFFICE MANAGER, On how working at a design studio has influenced HER home-building decisions

“It’s hard for me to say, so I asked my husband Jeff.

Jeff is an electrical engineer and pretty much has a desk job, but he’s outdoorsy. He leans more traditional as far as his aesthetic, so he doesn’t love a contemporary or modern interior design like me. But we usually find a compromise.

I asked him how he thought working around designers all day influenced my decision process at home had he said this:

‘Well, we had 12 different white paint colors, and you said, ‘I don’t like any of these, let’s go get more.’ I mean it’s white. I could have been fishing. So I’d say yes.’

Maybe the experiences and what I’ve been exposed to at the studio has permeated my psyche and has caused me to have a preferential feeling for some aspects of design that perhaps five years ago, I wouldn’t have been drawn to.

For the record, none of those whites were right.”
