MN Doc American Heart Awarded Regional Emmy

American Heart, a MN-made documentary feature about immigrant and refugee health care, recently added a Regional Emmy to its list of accolades.

Over a period of seven years director Chris Newberry filmed the lives of refugees as they attempted to navigate the health care system.  Centering on the lives of three men from Burma, Cambodia and Ethiopia, the film focuses on the HealthPartners Center for International Health in St. Paul which specializes in care of the immigrant community.

In an effort to more fully educate medical professionals and students in health care fields, the film screened at Penn State, Northwestern University, and multiple times at the U of M.  Other screenings have been hosted by the Center for Victims of Torture and the U.S. State Department.

American Heart will make its national TV premiere on January 20th as a part of the PBS series America Reframed.

Film Duluth Location Trailer Goes Live

Minnesota Film and TV began production of a Duluth location trailer this past August.  The production team included Duluth producer Tom Livingston and director Miles Hanon of Story Front Pictures.  On-camera talent Adam Sippola and Riki McManus of the Upper MN Film Office were also integral to the production.  Livingston was enthusiastic about the project saying, "I'm passionate about Duluth, its natural beauty, sense of place, culture & arts, positive vibe and immense potential for inspiring and supporting story creation."

Our director of production Troy Parkinson and board chair Erik Stolhanske joined the team in Duluth for a two-day shoot that included more than 15 locations. Highlights in the three minute trailer include the Lake Superior waterfront, the historic Gle
nsheen Mansion, Graffiti Park, Central High School, and the Saint Louis County Jail.  The trailer was edited by Miles Hanon with audio mastering by David Erbele of dangerstudios.com.  Additional footage was provided by Pro Video Productions

McManus said, "It was a great collaboration between both offices and Story Front Pictures. It's wonderful to highlight all the amazing locations Duluth has to offer. From the grit to the pristine beauty, Duluth has it all!"

The Duluth trailer is the newest addition to our growing library of video trailers used to promote Minnesota locations. To view the full trailer and see other MN location trailers click here.
