Sisters,

Election season is coming, and Sinister Wisdom's 2018 Lesbian Resistance Package is just in time! Three amazing back issues from the Sinister Wisdom archive to nurture, inspire, arouse, and enrage you as we move into the 2018 election season.
Lesbians from lower-class backgrounds, poor, working-poor, and working-class, edited Sinister Wisdom 45: Lesbians & Class. The issues range from rural to urban; Sinister Wisdom 45: Lesbians & Class features many womyn from many different backgrounds, and tells stories of poverty and classism's impact on lesbian lives.
Sinister Wisdom 46: Dyke Lives is dedicated to be a community space for dykes all over. This issue wants to see trouble, sharpen the edges of dissatisfaction into action, suspect its own comfort and compromises, and see the patriarchy end.

Sinister Wisdom 62: Lesbian Writers on Writing and Reading celebrates Lesbians' passion for words, the magic of language, and the power of our literature to reshape the world. Our words are precious. As Lesbians, our literature - the writing and the reading of it - is not a pastime or a hobby. It saves our lives. The Lesbians in this issue of Sinister Wisdom have written eloquently about how their writing is essential to their existence. This issue provides a necessary balm for the days ahead as the election approaches.

Sinister Wisdom 106: The Lesbian Body, edited by Tara Shea Burke, documents how struggles, interactions, and words shape the relationship lesbians have with their bodies and physical selves. This issue was such a hit that we quickly sold out! That's right, it is now a collectors copy!

But did you know Sinister Wisdom has an earlier Lesbian Body Issue?

If you loved the 106, you’ll love what inspired it: Sinister Wisdom 49, the original Lesbian Body Issue!

Gearing up for the school year?

Teaching feminist periodicals—and giving students a book—is joyful. Sinister Wisdom provides free classroom sets of back issues with carefully curated reading and teaching guides for your students or reading group!

Giving students free books brings them pleasure, particularly working class and poor students for whom purchasing books and class materials can be a hardship. Giving students a feminist periodical opens a world of creativity to them; it invites them to see themselves as creators of meaning in the world just like the women who published, edited, and wrote for feminist periodicals.

These books are a gift to you from the Women’s Liberation Movement. Now you can never say feminism did not give you anything!!

Guides for your class and/or reading group are available for issues 32, 36, 43/44, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 54, and 58.

Guides include summaries, discussion questions, and class activities to give readers a sense of the rich context of each issue. Get your students or reading group involved with lesbian herstory this Fall!

For decades she was a tireless activist, theorist, and teacher who lived and advocated for intersectionality in anti-oppression action and mode of thinking. Her book Cultural Etiquette was beloved by activists.
Three Rivers was one of the founders of the Womyn of Colour Tent and Sanctuary at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, an international feminist music festival held every August for four decades.
In 1990, she published Cultural Etiquette: A Guide for the Well-Intentioned through Market Wimmin, a womanist business she co-founded. Now Cultural Etiquette is available once more!
It's been a great summer here at Sinister Wisdom (in spite of the rain and the heat and the humidity!) As interns Sophia, Sara, Talia, and Carina wrap up their work, I wish them the best in the future endeavors (as well as their continued involvement with Sinister Wisdom!) I'm hoping new interns and volunteers show up for our fall work and activities.
In the next email, I'll announce our fall issues and the fall funddraising campaign is around the corner. Always something to do and read at Sinister Wisdom. I hope you are loving the journal and our work.
Wishing you all the best as we wrap up another hot summer!
In sisterhood,

Julie
