Sinister Wisdom 110: Dump Trump edited by Cheryl Clarke, Morgan Gwenwald, Stevie Jones, and Red Washburn officially publishes today, just 22 days before the midterm election. It's filled with the best lesbian political writing and is a thick issue clocking in at 304 pages. You want this issue. You know you want this issue.
It is out in the mail to all subscribers and many subscribers have received it. (One lovely way I know that women are receiving it is they send me notes--with checks to renew their subscription and support the journal!) If you do not have yours in hand, give it until October 31st to account for the vagaries of media mail. If you do not receive it by November 1st, email me without delay and we will get you a replacement copy as soon as possible.
In the mean time, make plans to attend one of the two celebratory events for the issue organized by Anne-christine d'Adesky, a contributor to the issue and author of the amazing book The Pox Lover: An Activist's Decade in New York and Paris. Anne-christine is organizing two events. One on Friday, November 2nd in Oakland, CA at Qulture Collective and one on Sunday, November 4th in New York. Join contributors reading from and celebrating Sinister Wisdom 110: Dump Trump.
If you are not a subscriber to Sinister Wisdom, you can still get a copy of the issue! Order a single copy here, or subscribe to Sinister Wisdom today.
Fall Fundraising Campaign
It's fall. It's time to raise a bit of money to keep Sinister Wisdom operating for next year. We have two simple goals this year with our fall fundraising campaign. They are:
Do you love Sinister Wisdom? Can you help? You can make a donation here and become a sustainer here.
All donors receive a subscription to Sinister Wisdom. Donors who give more than $75 will receive a copy of the fantastic 2019 Sinister Wisdom calendar. I'll be doing a few regular emails about our fall fundraising campaign - this is a soft launch for email newsletter readers. In the mean time, sister, give a little to help your lesbian sisters!
Next year seems like a long time away, but it is right around the corner. Be ready for every milestone with the 2019 Sinister Wisdom calendar! Each month features cover art from previous issues of the journal and the days include holidays and lesbian milestones in herstory. Order yours today - and order gift copies early. I fully expect we will run out, and when they are gone they are gone!
Sharing is Caring!!
Please share Sinister Wisdom and all that we do here with your friends and family. Your endless support is always appreciated. Please snap a quick photo and email it to us or tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or tumblr! Sinister Wisdom is new to the worlds of Instagram and tumblr so don't forget to follow and tag our new accounts.

Check out the new Calls for Contributors
We have some great new issues planned - and excellent guest editors curating these issues. You can see all of our calls for submissions here. Look in particular at the call for work from Jewish Lesbians for a issue titled "To Be a Jewish Dyke in the 21st Century" edited by Elana Dykewomon and Judith Katz and an issue dedicated to work by Asian Lesbians edited by Vi Khi Nao. Share with friends and send your work!
What? A New Lesbian Badge?
Yes! A new lesbian badge shipped with Sinister Wisdom 110: Dump Trump celebrating LESBIAN RESISTANCE in 2018. Be sure to check your issue for the badge - and if you want to share with friends and loved ones, you can purchase more here. These are limited. We sold out of last year's lesbian badge over the summer, so get yours today!
A word from your editor and publisher:
Fall is a busy time at Sinister Wisdom - and I only have one student intern working with me. I'm looking for another intern or two to help out spring semester, so if you know someone, send them my way! I have been doing a lot of writing lately on long-term, large writing projects, so am holed up in my office a bit more than usual. Hopefully you will see over the next years the results of this labor.
One project that I have worked on is a collection of essays about the amazing work of poet and scholar Alicia Ostriker. Titled, Everywoman Her Own Theology, this book is beautiful and a marvelous exploration of Ostriker's work. You can read a bit about it here - and order it directly from the publisher if you wish.
Another book that I have read recently and loved is a new chapbook of poems from Cheryl Clarke called TARGETS. These poems are gorgeous and sharp and fierce, just what we need from our visionary poets at this time. The chapbook is only available directly from Cheryl and costs $10. If you want to get your hands on a copy, mail $10 to her at P.O. Box 241, Hobart, NY 13788. You can tell her I sent you!
Manwhile, so many amazing lesbian books are out this fall. I'm reading Lucy Jane Bledsoe's incredible LAVA FALLS at the moment and Imani Perry's biography of Lorraine Hansberry, LOOKING FOR LORRAINE. Both are wonderful. What are you reading?
As I mentioned, you'll hear from me a bit more this fall about our fundraiser and other things emerging from Sinister Wisdom. I appreciate all of your support and affection for the journal and for this project of building and promoting lesbian literary culture.
