JUNE 2020

Hope’s Door hotline and shelter have been fully operational, 24/7 throughout the NYS PAUSE.  All of our counselors, attorneys and other staff have been working remotely, caring for clients, taking on new cases, and raising critical funds to stay operational.

WE are always here for those who need us. And YOU are here for us.  You have demonstrated that through your generosity since the pandemic hit NY.  We thank you.

We still face a budget gap of $100,000 from canceling our Gala on May 1, and we desperately need Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, but your generosity and continued support has demonstrated that you care, and we are incredibly grateful.

The LOFT of Westchester

Staff members at The LOFT, like those at Hope’s Door, are working harder than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic. The LOFT is Westchester County’s only center for LGBTQ people, ages 18 and older. The center serves as a safe space for LGBTQ and allied community members to connect with others and find support.

Hope's Door partners with Stop COVID-19 Special Operations Group to help the Northern Westchester High Risk Reduction Team

On Friday, May 29, Kevin Hansan, Pound Ridge Supervisor, Nicole Engel, Pound Ridge Director of Operations and Emergency Management, and Pound Ridge Police Chief David Ryan received and opened two pallets containing 500 protective face shields that were donated by Amcor, an international manufacturer of packaging solutions.

Paint Party at the Shelter!

Hope's Door Children's Counselor, Anna, took individual canvases, designed them and had the children at the shelter decorate them to create their very own painted masterpiece. "It gives them something to be proud of," she says. "We had a fun day outside and each child’s painting is uniquely their own, with really vibrant colors and fun decorations!"

Please consider making a donation here, so you can help bring arts and activities to the children in the shelter.

School is Closed, but STAR is Still Here!

Given the recent announcement that schools will not be re-opening for the remainder of the school year, Hope's Door wants to remind everyone that our STAR program is still here!
Our prevention team members have curriculum material available for teachers to share with students and are happy to schedule virtual classes to discuss safety in relationships!

If you would like to be given the materials or learn more about the program, please contact Alexa Kauffman.

Arthur's Story

After years of physical, financial, and emotional abuse, Arthur decided to leave his boyfriend and move back home. Seeing his distress and sensing his ambivalence about his former partner, his parents researched our services for victims of domestic violence, and were able to convince Arthur to call the Hope’s Door hotline.

Thank you Kristen Gizzi, Melissa Szot, and Cecily Tyler for each holding FB fundraisers to benefit Hope’s Door!  We are so grateful to you!
