Red Travel Newsletter

June 2015

Welcome to winter!
The best news is that we’ve passed the shortest day, and spring is nearer every week!

There has been loads of action with tours and transfers recently, and our drivers have enjoyed transporting groups as diverse as Canadian university students to families from Singapore all around the South Island.
Our Red Travel fleet includes 11-seat mini vans, and 21, 33 and 49-seat coaches.  All are in tip top condition, some of the vehicles recently undergoing a paint and interior upgrade.  All coaches and minivans are available for school camps and other outings, and regardless of your numbers, we have a vehicle to suit your needs.
In the past months we’ve also had great fun taking passengers on two six and eight day tours around the South Island.  There is so much marvellous scenery to enjoy, and every trip reminds us how magnificent this part of the world really is!
Already booked for July are several South Island multi-day trips for students visiting from Canada and Australia.

Red Bus takes real pride in being ahead of the field and its latest on-board computer technology is allowing it to collect very useful real time vehicle data.

Importantly, this includes information on driver performance. Known as  ‘telematics’, this new driver monitoring technology is already resulting in reduced fuel and vehicle maintenance costs and a better passenger experience.

So far 85% of kilometres travelled by Red Buses are now being monitored, with a third of our drivers trained in its Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving Programme (SAFED).

Data collected tells us which drivers constantly display excellent driving – resulting in increased passenger safety, reduced fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, less tyre wear, and savings on repairs and maintenance.

Brides & Coaches

During May we attended The Great NZ Bridal Show. It was an opportunity to meet wedding planners and those getting married and discuss transport for their wedding guests.  We have safely transported wedding guests to and from ceremonies and receptions around Christchurch and the greater Canterbury region, and we look forward to continuing to do so for the upcoming wedding season.

Promoting to event organisers at Convene South 2015

In September we’ll be exhibiting at the annual trade event for professionals who organise corporate events (from the company Christmas party to a major conference.) We look forward to catching up with those attending and showcasing our fleet and services.

Driver Profile - Steve Thompson

Steve Thompson has been at Red Bus since 2002. Steve is a valued driver/guide for many of the tour groups that Red Travel has the opportunity to transport.
When asked what he likes about driving tours he says, "It doesn't matter what job I'm given, whether it's a school trip or a job to Invercargill, I enjoy it all. In terms of touring, I know a lot about the country as I was taught by Maori elders about the country, the culture and the history. I love to convey all that information to visitors to New Zealand."

Steve enjoys meeting and interacting with people from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities.

He’s a big fan of Canterbury and likes that you can do so many activities in Christchurch. “You can go boating or diving one day and skiing the next.  As the city rebuilds there are also many new restaurants now," says Steve.
A memorable trip was with the Canterbury Bulls Rugby League team where they visited Oreti Beach in Southland. Once over the spectacular sand dunes they were able to collect shellfish like pipis on an unspoiled beach.

From planes to coaches

With the recent severe winter weather we have stepped up to assist airlines when there are flight disruptions and airport delays or closures.  Red Travel transports would-be plane passengers by coach to their destination, which most recently has been Queenstown.

Chinese visitor market

Recently Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism hosted 10 Chinese inbound travel agents. Red Travel spent an afternoon meeting with each of them discussing charter coach services and the Rebuild tour.  Our minivans were showcased as we took them to Kaikoura for whale watching and a visit to the seal colony. Chinese tour groups are a growth opportunity for us and we enjoyed meeting and learning more about this growing market.

Rugby Express

Forget about traffic hassles on Friday 17 July when the All Blacks take on Argentina in a rugby test match at the AMI Stadium.  We’ll be operating our services from Northwood, Hornby, The Palms and Merivale.  It is so much simpler to be picked up and returned to those key points rather than facing the stress of finding a carpark in a really congested area of the city.
2015 is turning into our biggest year yet.  We welcome your enquiries and will do everything we can to make your journey a memorable one.  Getting you there and back safely and in comfort, is what we do.
Keep warm
Kind regards
The Red Travel Team.
