Red Bus Charter Service Newsletter

March 2015

Welcome to the new school year!
Phew!  Where have the first few months of 2015 disappeared to?
It has been a very busy time for us, and for you.
So far we have transported many schools to school camps in places as varied as Wainui, Mt Hutt Retreat and Living Springs.
The excitement is always palpable as the campers and helpers set off, and the enjoyment, satisfaction  and tiredness is very evident when we bring them home.
Some schools have already experienced our new coaches – more comfortable, more space and more fun!
With the high volume of bookings we’ve had, Red Bus really appreciates the patience you’ve shown as we have juggled to meet your schedules in the past few weeks.

Kapa Haka

Red Bus had the pleasure of working with 14 talented groups taking part in the recent week-long Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival in Hagley Park by transporting them to and from rehearsal and performance venues and accommodation.   We fielded many calls for daily changes to itineraries and dealt efficiently with them all, thanks to the flexibility of charter and operations staff and drivers.
Our drivers really enjoyed the Kapa Haka groups and many were lucky enough to receive a Maori welcome and share a meal with their groups.
Kapa Haka was so big that it took all our resources for two whole days, which meant we had to turn away other work.  Our apology if you were one of the clients we had to turn away that weekend. Te Matatini was a hugely successful and important event for Canterbury.
We won’t forget this challenging time for Red Bus with our resources fully stretched.
Great teamwork resulted in a very successful week.

City to Surf

The annual City to Surf fun run and walk on Sunday, March 22nd was a great success with another record crowd this year.  This Christchurch community event is always a favourite and our shuttle service to the start and back from the finish ran like clockwork . We ran services in both directions to get them to Pioneer for the start and back again after the event

Travel Tips

Our really busy time on weekdays is between 2.30pm and 3.30pm when we can be really stretched for buses and drivers.
If you are able to schedule your travel arrangements outside those peak hours where even 15 minutes can make a big difference it  makes it much easier for us to say yes which we try to do every time.
Travel times around the city continues to be affected by road repairs and increasingly the impact of building projects.

Rugby Express

You can forget the traffic hassles now that the Super Rugby season is underway again.  Our rugby express services are operating once more so you can be picked up, dropped at the gates of the stadium and brought back again afterwards from Northwood Supa Centre, The Hub Hornby, the Palms and Merivale Mall.  Travelling with us does away with the stress of finding a car park in a really congested area near the action.

Red Travel

We proudly launched Red Travel in December last year.  Under this umbrella we operate a fleet of modern and comfortable coaches, ideal for school camps and outings outside of the city area.
These coaches have 49 seats and lots of luggage space.  Give us a call to discuss or visit our website for more information.

Other charter work

The cruise ship season is beginning to slow with the last ship this season visiting Akaroa on April 10th.
Red Bus has had an excellent season fulfilling transport requirements for cruise ship excursion organisers, as well as doing as some sub contract work for other coach companies.   The four 49-seat coaches have been very busy this season with great customer feedback.
During February we secured eight multi-day tour bookings, which our drivers carried out in the recently purchased coaches.  The drivers enjoyed showcasing the South Island to the visitors, typically visiting Lake Tekapo, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Dunedin and Christchurch.
We also completed many wedding charters over the summer, to venues from Halswell to Hanmer Springs.  We also had school and private sport groups travelling with us to tournaments in Dunedin, Ashburton and Nelson.  Some were multi day itineraries, which is a great new experience for our drivers.
The new coaches are ideal for school camps or any out of town jobs. Just give us a call and we’ll be happy to talk over your requirements.
We know 2015 is going to be a great year and we hope you are enjoying the last of the late summer days.  And what a summer it has been!  Might be time to order the wood, though.
Winter sports planning is already underway with haste and we are ready to help so give our charter team a call.
Kind regards
The Red Bus Charter Team.
