Ministry-Affliliated Cohorts (MAC) Proposed for 2016-2017

Over 100 Faith Formation Leaders in the Archdiocese of Dubuque have completed the MAC Request Form. According to the responses that you provided, we were able to pull together fourteen different recommended MACs. These MACs take into account as best as possible where you are coming from, what your interests are, and required at least five people from the same approximate geographical area with the same interests. We are looking to create a “wall” with the pictures of all the Faith Formation Leaders in the Archdiocese of Dubuque.  Please send a digital picture of yourself (preferably a “head shot”) to Joanne at  We want to be able to see your faces everyday!

Catechetical Sunday Ad in Witness

We would like to acknowledge all of our Faith Formation Leaders in the Witness on Sunday, September 18, 2016.  We are using our current database of FFLs who have been serving in an FFL capacity.  Since we no longer have contracts, we do not have a “check and balance” to see if we have the right people in the right place.  So, if there have been any changes in your parish/cluster/system to the FFL leadership since last year, please let us know.  We want to be able to include as many people in these positions as possible.  Thank you for your help.

Catechetical Sunday 2016

"Prayer: The Faith Prayed":  This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 18, 2016 and will focus on the theme "Prayer: The Faith Prayed." Catechists, whom the faith community has designated to serve, will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.  For resources go to: Catechetical Sunday.

Mission Priorities

As you recall, last fall and winter Archbishop Jackels traveled to parishes throughout the Archdiocese to share his vision for continuing the mission of Jesus in the Church’s ministries. He proposed that we focus on four Mission Priorities which resonate with the goals identified in Vision 2000, and which have also been affirmed by pastoral leaders.

He now asks that parish and school leaders begin to share examples of how these Mission Priorities are being carried out on the local level for the glory of God, the salvation of souls, and the authentic development of human society.

Details of how to share your efforts can be found by clicking HERE.

Checklists for Faith Formation Leaders

We have developed new beginning-of-the-year and end-of-the-year checklists for FFLs.  They can be found in FirstClass>Conferences>FFL Catechesis & Evangelization.  We hope these are helpful to you as you begin the year.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

AFFR (Archdiocesan Faith Formation Report) - 2016-2017

FirstClass Communication Reminders

On your FirstClass Desktop, you should find the host group $DBQFFL.  The host group $DBQFFL is utilized to communicate with all FFLs in the Archdiocese. This group is separate from your FirstClass Email account. We ask that you do this at least once per week.  FFLSharing is a FirstClass-based message board that allows faith formation leaders to share ideas and resources with one another.  If you would like to be included in this message board, please contact Joanne Pohland at

Online MA Offerings

The Online Master of Arts Offerings resource has been up-dated to include two new colleges or universities. Discussion Topics for Every Faith Formation Leader and His/Her Pastor

  • How can we best serve parents, who are the primary catechist of their children without “taking over” for them?
  • How is Faith Formation ministry fitting into the whole parish structure?

The 2016-2017 FFL/CSA Study Book

The faith formation leaders' and Catholic school principals' study book for 2016-2017 is: A Church on the Move - 52 ways to Get Mission and Mercy in Motion by Joe Paprocki.

Best-selling author Joe Paprocki insists that there is good news for the future of the Church: with the right plans in place, the Catholic Church—and the local parish specifically—will not only survive, but thrive.  A Church on the Move offers 52 practical strategies for moving parishes forward, principally by focusing on the one thing the Church can offer that the world-at-large cannot: Jesus Christ. The Education Resource Center Is On Pinterest!

We are excited to announce that the Archdiocese is now actively pinning on Pinterest! The ERC staff has currated resources for over a dozen Pinterest Boards, many on topics to support the domestic church. Anyone can easily obtain a free account on Pinterest and access these Boards on Each Board displays a variety of Pins that feature resources including samples of both tangible resources from the ERC as well as online resources for immediate click-and-go access. These online resources include videos, games and activities, crafts, reference articles, useful websites, and more. Pass along to parish/school staff and volunteers the Pinterest link above. You can also direct families to the Domestic Church Resources web page at which includes links to the Domestic Church Pinterest boards as well as a fun video introduction to ERC web-based resources.
