2016 Catechetical Sunday Theme Announcement

The Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis of the USCCB is pleased to announce that the theme for Catechetical Sunday September 18, 2016 is: "Prayer: The Faith They Prayed."

The new 2016 Catechetical Sunday site complete with articles, clip art, prayer cards, customizable catechist certificates, Commissioning service, and promotional information will be available in April on the USCCB website.

Parents are truly the primary catechists of their children. They prepare the soil and plant the first seeds of faith. On Catechetical Sunday, the Church highlights the work of catechists in parishes and schools, but also commends parents and guardians and encourages them to take seriously their role of making their Catholic households a place where faith is passed on to the next generation.

The Totus Tuus program, now in its second year in the Archdiocese, is seeking the greatest college-aged Catholic missionaries ever! Totus Tuus connect faith-filled young adults with children and teens from all of the Archdiocese for 7-8 weeks in the summer. Team members are trained and paid for their work and their rewards are "out of this world". If you know any college-aged Catholics who would be great role models for their faith and are up for a challenging and rewarding summer, please encourage them to consider applying for this opportunity. The application can be found at  Each team is ideally made up of two men and two women and since seminarians are highly encouraged to accept this challenge, we are specifically in need of female applicants.  If you have any questions about Totus Tuus, please contact Kevin Feyen at

The Church of Mercy:  A Vision for the Church
Collected from Pope Francis’s speeches, homilies, and papers presented during the first year of his papacy, The Church of Mercy is the first Vatican-authorized book detailing his vision for the Catholic Church. From how to be citizens of the world to answering God’s call for evangelization, Pope Francis's deep wisdom reminds us that the Church must move beyond its own walls and joyfully bring God's mercy wherever suffering, division, or injustice exists.
