Monthly Newsletter
Make a Blue Wave happen in 2020!

Great turnout at our last event, with 261 letters sent to potential voters!

We meet on on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, in the Purcell Room of the Peninsula Center Library (701 Silver Spur Road), from 1:15PM to 2:45PM .

On Sunday Feb 23, we'll be writing letters to potential Arizona voters to get them to register to vote.  Depending on availability, we'll also be doing some text-banking - either to get-out-the-vote in Southern California, or to work to defeat Republican senators in Colorado & Arizona.

Bring a laptop to text, and we'll train you if you haven't done it before.

Also, Indivisible Beach Cities does postcarding at Del Amo Mall food court on the 1st Sunday of each month, and on the 3rd Sunday at South Bay Galleria food court.  And Sister District does postcarding every Monday at the Peninsula Center library.  Check our website calendar for details on those events, at

California legislative priorities
The CA Legislature reconvened in January and our representatives have been busy introducing new bills for 2020, in addition to reviewing and voting on the “2-year bills” introduced during 2019.  These remaining 2019 priority bills will continue to receive CA State Strong support in 2020:
  • SB 29 / AB 4 Expands Medi-Cal to undocumented immigrants
  • SB 54 / AB 1080 Bans single-use plastics
  • AB 646 / ACA 6 Restores voting rights to people on parole
  • AB 1217 Requires issue ads to disclose top funders
  • AB 1611 Prohibits surprise bills from “out of network” ERs and caps prices
You can suggest other bills for advocacy by clicking the link below.  You may recommend a 2-year bill from 2019, or a new bill introduced this year. Submit the form by Friday, February 28.

March group meeting

The March general group meeting will be on the 2nd Saturday (we couldn't get our usual date) - Mar 14, from 2:00 - 3:45 PM, at Torrance Zamperini Field.

As always, we'll be doing "30 Minutes of Activism", discussing upcoming events and opportunities for action, and hear from special guest speakers.
Cause of the Month

This month's cause is to Flip the Senate!
We need to flip just 4 seats to win a majority, and there are 23 Republican seats up for election in 2020. Swing Left's Early Impact Fund targets the eight most likely races- your donation will be held in escrow and then split between the eventual Democratic nominees in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, and Texas.

It's a great way to make sure that the primary winners have the funds they need to run strong competitive races!

Want to fight Trump and the GOP circus of horrors, and make a real difference? Join us in CA-45 to register some Democrats!

In 2018, against all odds, the Resistance helped Katie Porter win her seat. Our volunteers were critical in flipping this district!  Now the Republicans will be gunning for Katie Porter. Let's have her back, and build on our new Democratic majority in Orange County!

No experience necessary. We'll start with a 15-minute training and deploy to some local hot spots. We'll have everything you need - clipboards, forms, pens, and sunscreen. Just bring water, some comfortable shoes, and maybe a hat.

NOTE: Wear a liberal-looking t-shirt if you have one. It can really help

Holding Our Elected Officials Accountable

We meet regularly with the staff of each of our elected representatives, at both the National and State level, to advocate for our positions on current legislation, and provide feedback to them on their actions & votes.

The meetings are great way to engage in the democratic process!  The staff listens carefully - and we often see positive outcomes from these interactions. If you'd like to participate, look for upcoming meetings on the calendar link below.

  1. Defund William Barr. William Barr personally intervened to score a lighter sentence for Roger Stone, Donald Trump's deeply corrupt former campaign adviser. The Department of Justice is not a private law firm and the Attorney General is not the president’s personal lawyer. Yet Bill Barr is exploiting his position to run favors for the president. Call your representative,  and demand that Congress investigate Bill Barr and defund his office until he recuses himself from any Trump-related investigations or prosecutions.
  2. Text PAYBACK to 977-79 and join Project Payback. In just a month since launch, we’ve seen twists and turns and had to drop everything to respond to new Republican schemes. We know that’s not going to stop, which is why we need even more folks texting, donating, and joining local groups as we continue to get payback now until the election!
  3. End surprise medical bills. Congress needs to act to end the exploitative practice of surprise medical bills. Every day, over 10,000 families in the United States receive a surprise medical bill- sometimes up to tens of thousands of dollars. Congress needs to act to protect patients! Call your Representative and tell them to end surprise medical bills for health services!
  4. Send a Letter to Editor calling on the Senate to pass H.R. 1 The House has already passed H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a major pro-democracy bill, but Republicans in the Senate refuse to bring it up for a vote. Our friends at the Declaration for American Democracy have put together a helpful tool that you can use to raise this important issue with your local newspapers.
