Winter Solstice Fundraiser:
Help us reach our $2000 goal!

VAYLA honors our deep Vietnamese American roots as we continue to grow with our community and hold a sacred space in New Orleans for Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) resilience and empowerment through education and advocacy around civic engagement, reproductive justice, environmental justice and beyond. Build an intersectional future and join our movement by supporting our work.

Đông chí Festival has its origins in the concept of yin and yang in Chinese philosophy. The winter solstice festival represents balance and harmony in life: the yin qualities of darkness and cold reach their height of influence on the shortest day of the year, but they also mark a turning point for the coming of the light and warmth of yang. Here’s wishing us all a time of light, rebirth and reawakening, and optimism for the year ahead.

This holiday season, support local organizations like VAYLA by contributing to our Winter Solstice fundraiser.
Light Our Path Forward Together

The pandemic redirected our usual in-person GOTV efforts to digital platforms. We reached our communities through multiple channels: translated printed materials in produce boxes, community Census videos, asking candidates important questions that we translated for our voters, raffles for local restaurant gift cards, and an in-depth translated voter guide. Our team continued outreach despite our physical offices being closed and with the help of our community, the Census self-responses and voter turnout increased this year! Your contribution helps us continue expanding our outreach.

Our Farm to Families program is a community aid service in which we uplift families weekly in New Orleans East through fresh produce, food, translated COVID and voting materials, and face masks for families and farmers. Your contribution will allow us to continue funding mutual aid projects and organizations like the Veggi Farmers' Cooperative.

Earth Rising is a year-long project aimed to provide environmental justice education to underserved communities including groups with limited English proficiency. As an Earth Rising fellow, members participate in an educational curriculum emphasizing the ways in which the environment intersects with social justice and everyday life. Earth Rising aims to support the next generation of community leaders of color and improve their self-efficacy for environmental change. The program creates space for fellows to explore strategic partnerships with community partners while establishing a strong foundation of allyship and understanding solidarity’s role in advancing environmental justice work.
Our holiday contest is another initiative for mutual aid work in our community. We want to highlight the importance of young AAPI voices in our community and to emphasize creativity and imagination for our radical futures. Keep following us to hear what our winners had to say about why their voices matter.
Ginger Roots is a collective healing space intended for AAPIs to reclaim our power, our bodies, and our stories through sharing in community. Your contribution will help VAYLA continue our monthly storytelling program Ginger Roots, where we aim to uplift one another through our personal narratives. Follow @rjvayla to keep up with next year’s events and more to come!

Finally, our AAPI Rising: Intersectionality in the New South is our educational speaker series in which we explore questions of identity, place, and empowerment so we can build power and community through a digital platform, offering a connection in the age of social distancing while asking difficult questions. We invite speakers working in Asian American communities as well as Black and Brown communities to discuss their journey and create calls to action for our next generation of leaders.
