The mission of the MudRatz is to complement the local sailing programs offered by the yacht clubs of the region, by enabling enthusiastic sailors to practice in the spring and fall as well as travel as a team to regattas around the country.

Fall Sign Up - MudRatz

Dear ECSA Sailors, Parents and Coaches,

Fall is fast approaching and that means it's time for another off season of MudRatz sailing!.  So pack up the boats this labor day and truck them over to our fall home at NBYC for what is sure to be a great six weeks of small group coaching and big fun sailing!

We again would like to thank
the ECSA, Morgan Stanley - Canning Bergendahl Group, and the Mystic River Mudheads. Without their support this team would not be possible.

Brandon Flack -
MudRatz

This fall we are thrilled to again call NBYC home.  Due to requests from parents we will run the Opti and 420's at the same location this fall.

All Opti's and 420's can be stored on site for free!  Feel free to drop them off anytime after Labor Day.

Fall Program Offerings!

Opti Racing

Location: Niantic Bay YC

Time: Sundays @ 4pm – 7pm

Dates: September 7th through October 19th (six practices) *note there will be one travel week for CT State Champs (Time and Cost TBD).

Cost: $135 per child (+ $25 uniform for new sailors & $15 MudHead membership if not currently a member)

Boat Needs:  If you do not own your own Opti we can help you find one for charter.  We strongly recommend that each child has their own Opti.  The cost of ownership with resale value is normally less then a charter fee for one season.

Details:  Each kid should have a race ready Opti and have a sailing level competence of at least green fleet (meaning they have raced before).  We are a learn to race program, not learn to sail.  During the first week of practice we will evaluate sailors skill level.  IF you child is not up to speed with the group we might recommend private lessons or other methods for them to catch up before re-joining the team.

Boat can be stored for free at NBYC, and each boat should have a dolly for ramp launching.  We will have carpooling from Mystic Marriott for interested parents.

420 Boathandling & Racing

Location:  Niantic Bay YC

Time: Sunday's @ 3:30-6:30pm

Dates:  Dates: September 7th through October 19th (six practices) *there will be one travel week with Time and Cost TBD)

Cost: $135 per child (+ $25 uniform for new sailors & $15 MudHead membership if not currently a member)

Boat Charter:  If you do not own a 420 we can help you find one for charter.

Details:  Our 420 goal is to learn more about what makes the 420 FUN and FAST.  Practices will be geared around boat handling and boat speed.

New this year we are asking each team member to join the MudHeads.

Last Important Details!

Please make sure kids are dressed for sailing (smocks, gloves, boots, hats) as we sail in ALL weather, rain, wind, snow and sun.  Please send each child with a snack and waterbottle as well.  Each season we see kids become limited by the clothes they have... dress your child for success!

Kids should be rigged and ready to launch BY the start of practice day, we are not paying coaches to help rig, so please get the kids there early enough to be ready to sail on time.

Boats can be dropped off at NBYC anytime from Labor day until right before the first practice.
