Jesus Leads the Way!
The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.

A day working with the pigs!
|
|
Ellen recently shocked me by saying that this month is the eight year mark for being full-time in Honduras!! Our Honduras journey started way back in 1996 when I was invited on a short term trip by an FDA co-worker, Dr. Sam Maldonado, and the trips have never stopped.
Our original mission vision was working with small groups in churches, or homes, to share Christ, His love, and some of the amazing physical blessings that He has provided that can actually improve our lives right now. The idea was discipling one-on-one or in small groups. I wasn't thinking of a training program for pastors, a community training pavilion, or a farm scale pig program, but God's plans are always bigger and better. PTL!
One good thing that has come out of the caravans and recent protests is the attention it has brought with many articles being written that highlight the reality that Honduras is a country in crisis! Please pray for peace. The political protests continue but have calmed down a little. There is still the possibility each week of road closures, but they are usually announced beforehand. We do not feel afraid. Our daily routine in La Paz continues...
So, what is the answer? Fundamentally, it is a heart, or spiritual issue, and the answer is Jesus! That's why we're are here and why we need you to be a part of Team Honduras. Honduras has its share of problems which brings darkness but The Light (Jesus) shines brightest in the darkness!

Pigs Eat Moringa
As we continue on our path of discovery in natural pig farming we are constantly on the search for good feed that we can collect or grow. I (Matt) ran across an article by another missionary who is raising pigs in the Philippines using Moringa for feed. So, we went on the hunt for Morninga. In the end we went back to Humuya (the small town where we lived for 3 years) and one of our neighbors to who we had given seeds had two trees growing. She happily let us have many seed pods and branches with leaves! Check out this link to learn more about Moringa!

Moringa Seeds!
Wilmer and Maribel helped by stripping Moringa seeds out of the pods. Then the outer skin is taken off and then we germinate the seeds in containers at our house to be planted later up at the farm.

Seedlings!
We now have several hundred seedlings growing in bags getting ready to be transplanted along the fence line of the farm as well as in intensive beds.

Eye Glasses!
We had an "Eye Glasses Clinic" in May with our friend and fellow missionary Lynda Gregg. We saw about 200 people from the churches of the pastors who participate in our pastor training. For many of the people the glasses were like a miracle! We shared Scripture of God's love and purposed to love them!

Team Honduras!!
Team Honduras is God working through you and us! You might never step foot in Honduras, but you can effectively engage through regular prayer for us and the work here, and through your financial support! Thank you to those who have been supporting us throughout these last eight years! We are so grateful!!
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.
