Up, Up and away!
Who are these who fly like a cloud,
And like doves to their roosts?

CFI youth parachute ball craft!
|
|
The Friday before Samana Santa, or Easter week, we met with the youth from the continuing education ministry that Carlos, his wife and his sister are running. The craft was to make a "Parachute Ball" from whiffle balls that the pastor from Georgia had to bring down for us as we could not find them here!
As Carlos and I talked about what to share from the Bible we decided that just as parachute jumper trusts his parachute to bring him safely back to earth, the question to discuss is, "What are counting on, or what are you trusting in?"
It was a very evangelistic meeting discussing verses about sin, heaven, Jesus, salvation, the reality of physical death and the necessity of an eternal decision. Of the 26 youth only two said that they have trusted in God for salvation. At the end of our Bible time none prayed to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. That may sound disappointing but the reality is that most people who repent and accept Christ have actually had several previous gospel presentations... so, maybe we were just the first in their opportunities to hear of the goodness of our Lord! So, I was actually thrilled to have clearly presented and discussed the gospel with them and pray for their future decision for Christ!

Background Work
Carlos and I spent many hours just shopping for the material for the "parachute balls". We actually purchased and tested several types of plastic. We ended up using a thin plastic trash bag for the chutes.

The Pavilion in Use!
We held the event at the training pavilion even though it is still not quite done. Beautiful day, great location, lots of space, attentive youth, and a fun time!

Good Talk
My desire was not to preach at them but to talk with them. Both Carlos and I shared, and so the youth had plenty of opportunity to make comments or ask questions. We really worked through several key Scriptures and I hope they are still rolling them over in their heads.

Love Them!
Obviously, I believe in the urgency of sharing the gospel and I also believe that it should be done in the context of loving the person. So, we purpose in silly little crafts (which they are crazy about) to show we care, to spend time together and to love on them!

Team Honduras is God working through you and us! You might never step foot in Honduras, but you can effectively engage through regular prayer for us and the work here, and through your financial support!
