The East of England is continuing to see higher house price rises than the rest of England and Wales, according to latest figures from Rightmove.  Their House Price Index report for April takes in what was a hectic period for many agents, including here at Flick & Son, leading up to the changes in Stamp Duty for second homes and buy-to-let property that came in on 1st April. 
Although we would expect that prices will continue to increase, it is possible that this may be at a slightly more subdued rate in the coming months.

Mortgage freedom
Borrowers have reached the point in the year when they have earned enough to pay off the annual cost of their mortgage, according to research. 

The Halifax estimates that by 18th April, those earning the average income will have worked hard enough to cover their 2016 payments.  There is a wide variation though, depending on your location.  Due to prices in London, ‘Freedom Day’ doesn’t fall until late June.
People power
Householders have come up with some novel ideas for the way homes could be powered in the future. 

A survey by Gocompare Energy claims 91% of respondents think things will change but backed some unusual predictions.  55% believe appliances will be driven by exercise devices, water energy created from our drains interested 51%, while 39% think roof tiles will automatically harness the sun’s rays in years to come.
