Activity in the property market starting early

Welcome to the latest newsletter from Flick & Son where we are seeing an early 2016 surge in interest to the property market.
Better weather naturally brings househunters out in droves but things are already picking up for us in February.  We have seen spikes in traffic to our website and in enquiries to our offices – both clear indications that demand for homes will be a talking point in the housing market this year.  So if you were thinking of waiting until Spring to market your home, it might be worth bringing plans forward as people are clearly looking for properties like yours right now.
Most professionals in the industry are expecting further house price rises this year.  Almost 80% of those surveyed by London accountants Accounts & Legal believe there will be further increases with more than half predicting rises of more than five per cent.

The year of the first-time buyer?

The president of the National Association of Estate Agents has said 2016 could be more promising for first-time buyers. 
Martyn Baum says a number of financial initiatives coupled with added restrictions in the buy-to-let sector offers greater choice for those planning their first home.  He praised the recently-launched Help to Buy ISA where £12,000 saved is given a £3,000 boost by the Government.  Mr Baum believes the initiative will not only serve its purpose but encourage a culture of saving. 

Mortgage arrears fall sharply
Mortgage arrears are at their lowest level for more than ten years, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
The CML says just over 10,000 properties were repossessed in 2015, less than half the number recorded in 2014.  Statistically, lenders are twice as likely to repossess a buy-to-let property compared to an owner-occupied home but repossessions generally remain relatively rare at around one in every 5,000.
