BOARD BUZZ - MAY 12, 2020 - NEW
Once again the Church Board met by ZOOM video conference for our May meeting. Many of our ministries have been able to continue through the use of online resources. Our worship services on YouTube have been well received and have reached former members of our congregation who live as far away as Cape Breton, as well as members of other congregations whose churches are unable to offer online worship. Thanks to Rev. Greg Daly, Music Director Randy Vancourt, and all those who have been participating in the services for the creative worship services we are all enjoying.
Our Church Treasurer, Cathy Williamson, has been working very hard behind the scenes to figure out what financial supports our Church may be eligible for during the emergency shutdown. While some help is being offered by The United Church of Canada and Shining Waters Region, the many changes that continue to be made in the financial support programs as they are introduced and implemented have made this work complicated and frustrating. Thank you Cathy for doing this work on our behalf.
We also appreciate the work of our other Board and congregation members and staff who are continuing to keep our pastoral care, outreach, affirming ministry, and other programs active in new and evolving ways. Many in the neighbourhood have said they enjoy hearing our Church’s peace bell ringing at 7:30 p.m. to acknowledge the work of frontline workers. Thanks to Gail Barkic for getting this initiative underway.
The Church Board has asked Betty McCulloch, with support from Rev. Greg Daly, to lead a task group that will start looking ahead to how we will begin to reopen our Church building and resume our Church activities as Ontario begins to lift the emergency orders. The task group will make recommendations about the timing as well as the changes needed to protect the health and safety of all who use the Church building. Thank you Betty for agreeing to take this on. If you have ideas, suggestions or concerns relating to the reopening, please email them to Betty and she will start compiling them as the planning process begins. If you want to join the task group, please contact Betty (firstname.lastname@example.org, 416-694-1228).
