Mammoth Hotel and Haynes Photo Shop Project Updates
We are happy to finally provide a project update regarding the renovation of the Haynes Photo Shop (pictured left) and Mammoth Hotel. The Haynes Photoshop renovation is well underway and administrative offices are projected to move in the fall of 2016. The renovation of Mammoth Hotel is a two phase project that will commence the fall of 2016 (very soon!). Important aspects of these projects include:
• The move of all administrative offices from the hotel, including the central reservations department, into the historic Haynes Photo Shop (renamed the Haynes Administrative Building). • The Mammoth Hotel, including the guest rooms, dining room and retail operations will be closed for the next two winters. • Xanterra will continue to operate all over snow transportation and the facilities at Old Faithful Snow Lodge. • The Terrace Grill will be the interim hub for over snow travel to Old Faithful Snow Lodge. • Limited, casual food service throughout the day will also be offered at the Terrace Grill. • The Ski Shop operation will be located in the Terrace Grill with limited retail offerings. • The airport shuttle service will continue which will depart from the Terrace Grill, take departing guests directly to Bozeman, and bring arriving guests directly to the Terrace Grill for an afternoon departure to Snow Lodge.
• The primary phase one construction aspects in the hotel include an expanded retail space to house the ski shop, a bar in the Map Room, upstairs meeting space, and an additional elevator.
• Additionally, the beautiful map from the Map Room will be removed during construction to undergo restoration before returning to back to its home. • Phase II will follow in the fall of 2017 which will encompass the guest wing of the hotel. • Once both phases are complete, Mammoth Hotel will then open as a year round operation (spring 2018).
Xanterra is working closely with the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce in an effort to plan ahead to meet the lodging and F&B demands that will fall to them on the north end of the park to accommodate guests.
The end result of these projects will enhance the visitor experience and offer longer term employment to staff. Many employees who have worked previous winters at Mammoth may be concerned about winter employment. Though this two year plan will reduce required staffing levels for the winters of 2016 and 2017, we are committed to providing winter employment opportunities to benefited core and year round employees whose job responsibilities may be impacted.
