What's Happening at the Morro Bay Library This Month

News & HighlightsOctober 2016

Hi <<First Name>>,

We love to read. That is why our Morro Bay Library is a regular destination for many of us. For a lot of us we love to discuss what we read. So many times questions come to mind when we discuss the books we are reading such as:

  • Why do we feel anything for fictional characters?
  • Why do we get angry, moved, irritated, annoyed or sentimental about imaginary people in imaginary worlds?
  • And why do the lives of fictional characters matter so much to us as readers?Future Learn
Amazingly, we might find answers to those questions in a free 2 week online class being presented by the University of Nottingham called "How to Read a Mind: An Introduction to Understanding Literary Characters" beginning October 3. For readers and writers of fiction this could be fun!

you could always join us at one of our many Wednesdays book discussion groups from 10 a.m. - Noon where we always have a way of addressing any one of those questions!

Another educational opportunity comes to us locally via Lifelong Learners of the Central CoasLifelong Learners of the Central Coastt. Many courses are offered for very minimal cost. However, one course that was recently offered can now be listened to for free, along with the ability to download a pdf version. Look for a FisherFishery Displayy display coming to the Morro Bay Library on October 22.

On October 27 it is National "Read for the Record" day withThe Bear Ate Your Sandwich "The Bear Ate Your Sandwich."

The evening of our lives offers a new quest with distinct trials and triumphs than early adulthood. By now, we have learned that we cannot control what happens to us and our loved ones, but we can choose how we respond to these circumstances. We can transform the inevitable physical, psychological and spiritual challenges of aging into opportunities for growth and satisfaction.

After a brief overview of the principles and practices of conscious aginWise Woman's Way by Berta Parrishg, this workshop takes the first step by reframing some of the unexamined, self-limiting thoughts, beliefs, and emotions about aging into life-expanding ones. Come ready to reflect, to share, and to be revitalized by new possibilities.
