Good Bye!
Did you know that tulips are one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring? They can mean rebirth.... deep love, or just become an opportunity to brighten someone's day with their vibrant beauty. Tulips are also a great way to show how you feel. That is why they are my gift to you because...it's time for me to say goodbye.
NamasteNo, I am not leaving my position as Group Facilitator & Coordinator for the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group. So what is changing you ask? Why am I saying goodbye?

This is my last formal monthly newsletter. 

Why? Because you don't need me any more. There is so much you already know. For eMore time for reading xample....by now, you should know that the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group meets at the Morro Bay Library on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 10 a.m. - Noon to discuss books....and on the 2nd Wednesday of the month down arrowfrom 10 a.m.- Noon we meet as the Mystery Readers Group to discuss.....yes, you got it....mysteries! Hopefully, by now you know that if you need to get in touch with me, you can do so here. If you would like to know what books we are reading and discussing each week, you can go here. If you want to know what is happening at the Morro Bay Library each month you can go here. And now...my last monthly newsletter reporting of...Upcoming Events the month of May.

An Afternoon with T.C. Boyle...May 7 at 3 p.m. at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. The Pen/Faulkner Award-winning novelist and "short-storyista" will discusT.C. Boyles his extensive career and the immense joy he finds while creating his work. The author will then perform a new story...which will remind everyone of the elemental pleasure of hearing a single voice in a darkened auditorium taking us to new places. Special Opportunity: Do you want to chat with the author in person? A reception for a limited number of people is available at 1:30 p.m. (same day/same place) for an additional $40. Just select "VIP" price when purchasing your tickets and you will receive information concerning how to access the reception. For tickets: Go Here. This program is co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Library Foundation. Proceeds from the performance support our local libraries. 

This Marilyn Shuklianmonth I am excited to introduce Marilyn Shuklian as our Guest Group Facilitator volunteer to the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group. Marilyn has been a long time participant whose background in teaching compliments her love of books and conversation. She is warm and empathetic, a collaborative communicator and a great and enthusiastic listener. She will be leading the discussion on May 17.  If you think you might want to be a Guest Group Facilitator at some point, please contact me. This is a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm for reading and discussing books with a dynamic group of people! 

On Saturday, May 20 enjoy the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sale at the MFriends of the Library Book Saleorro Bay Library. Members only Sale (You Can Even Join at the Door!) 9 - 10 a.m. - Public Sale 10 am - 1 p.m., $3 Bag Sale, 12 - 1 p.m. You don't want to miss this special event which not only fills your personal library but supports your Morro Bay Library

Did you read Cuesta's 2017 Book of the Year: "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?" The Immortal Life of Henrietta LacksOur Morro Bay Book Discussion Group discussed it on September 7, 2011. One more thing...I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following individuals who have been so much a part of my Morro Bay Library journey....Jude Long, Jackie Kinsey, Mary Blair, Ric Deschler, Keith Bergher and Rick Gilligan. I wouldOne More Thing also like to acknowledge the talented and gifted staff of the Morro Bay Library.....Michele Gorey, Diana Hammerlund, Beth McKenzie and Beth Ann Stanovich. A special thank you to one of my favorite volunteer buddies...Laurie Allen... who probably puts in more hours for the Morro Bay Library..than I do(!!!!). Laurie is the one, if you didn't know, who coordinates the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sales and Bookstore.  I would also like to share a special appreciation to the many wonderful volunteers who I had the privilege of working with while a member of the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Board. It was a great adventure! I am also so grateful to all those tireless individuals that were apart of the Board of Directors beyond my tenure. They have continued to make the Morro Bay Library an inviting community hub for all our residents, visitors and patrons. Lastly, I am tremendously appreciative of all the amazing authors (too many to name - but, you know who you are!) who shared their talents and wisdom with us. Every body on this list has contributed immensely to the joy I have experienced at the Morro Bay Library!

Books (for the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at our book group session. You will need to check out the 2nd Wednesdays Mystery Readers selection on your own. If you are not present when the books are handed out at our book group sessions, please be sure and check with staff to see if there are extra copies in the back room.... otherwise, you will need to order the books on your own. This way you can be prepared to discuss with us at our next session.
