Hi <<First Name>>,
Did you know that tulips are one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring? They can mean rebirth.... deep love, or just become an opportunity to brighten someone's day with their vibrant beauty. Tulips are also a great way to show how you feel. That is why they are my gift to you because...it's time for me to say goodbye.
No, I am not leaving my position as Group Facilitator & Coordinator for the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group. So what is changing you ask? Why am I saying goodbye?
This is my last formal monthly newsletter.
Why? Because you don't need me any more. There is so much you already know. For example....by now, you should know that the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group meets at the Morro Bay Library on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 10 a.m. - Noon to discuss books....and on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m.- Noon we meet as the Mystery Readers Group to discuss.....yes, you got it....mysteries! Hopefully, by now you know that if you need to get in touch with me, you can do so here. If you would like to know what books we are reading and discussing each week, you can go here. If you want to know what is happening at the Morro Bay Library each month you can go here. And certainly, if you haven't joined the Morro Bay Friends of the Library by now, I strongly recommend you do so....by going here to keep up on all their latest programs and events that support our Morro Bay Library.
Now....if you haven't done it yet....please put all those links I provided in the above paragraph in your address book/contact list! If you weren't able to click on the links, you can still find what you need below.
Thank you so much for being such loyal readers and supporters. If something that I coordinate comes up in the future, I will send you a special notice in your inbox. So... if you still want to be on my confidential email list, there is no need to unsubscribe. However, if you don't want any future emails from me, please unsubscribe. (Go to the bottom of this newsletter). Or if this is the first time you are receiving this and want to subscribe to be part of whatever future comes, go to the bottom of this newsletter to do so. Whatever you decide, please know that I truly have enjoyed producing this newsletter knowing how much it has meant to all of you over the years.
Oh, and if you would like.... Please...stay in touch with me!
And now...my last monthly newsletter reporting of... the month of May.
An Afternoon with T.C. Boyle...May 7 at 3 p.m. at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. The Pen/Faulkner Award-winning novelist and "short-storyista" will discuss his extensive career and the immense joy he finds while creating his work. The author will then perform a new story...which will remind everyone of the elemental pleasure of hearing a single voice in a darkened auditorium taking us to new places. Special Opportunity: Do you want to chat with the author in person? A reception for a limited number of people is available at 1:30 p.m. (same day/same place) for an additional $40. Just select "VIP" price when purchasing your tickets and you will receive information concerning how to access the reception. For tickets: Go Here. This program is co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Library Foundation. Proceeds from the performance support our local libraries.
This month I am excited to introduce Marilyn Shuklian as our Guest Group Facilitator volunteer to the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group. Marilyn has been a long time participant whose background in teaching compliments her love of books and conversation. She is warm and empathetic, a collaborative communicator and a great and enthusiastic listener. She will be leading the discussion on May 17. If you think you might want to be a Guest Group Facilitator at some point, please contact me. This is a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm for reading and discussing books with a dynamic group of people!
On Saturday, May 20 enjoy the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Morro Bay Library. Members only Sale (You Can Even Join at the Door!) 9 - 10 a.m. - Public Sale 10 am - 1 p.m., $3 Bag Sale, 12 - 1 p.m. You don't want to miss this special event which not only fills your personal library but supports your Morro Bay Library!
Did you read Cuesta's 2017 Book of the Year: "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?" Our Morro Bay Book Discussion Group discussed it on September 7, 2011. If you would like to watch the Lacks Family in Conversation with Kim Lacks and Alfred Carter, Jr. produced by Cuesta College's Book of the Year Committee please go here.
One more thing...I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following individuals who have been so much a part of my Morro Bay Library journey....Jude Long, Jackie Kinsey, Mary Blair, Ric Deschler, Keith Bergher and Rick Gilligan. I would also like to acknowledge the talented and gifted staff of the Morro Bay Library.....Michele Gorey, Diana Hammerlund, Beth McKenzie and Beth Ann Stanovich. A special thank you to one of my favorite volunteer buddies...Laurie Allen... who probably puts in more hours for the Morro Bay Library..than I do(!!!!). Laurie is the one, if you didn't know, who coordinates the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sales and Bookstore. I would also like to share a special appreciation to the many wonderful volunteers who I had the privilege of working with while a member of the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Board. It was a great adventure! I am also so grateful to all those tireless individuals that were apart of the Board of Directors beyond my tenure. They have continued to make the Morro Bay Library an inviting community hub for all our residents, visitors and patrons. Lastly, I am tremendously appreciative of all the amazing authors (too many to name - but, you know who you are!) who shared their talents and wisdom with us. Every body on this list has contributed immensely to the joy I have experienced at the Morro Bay Library!
To all of you who have ever attended any of my programs and/or continue to participate in our Book Discussion Group(s): Thank you for making the Morro Bay Library your destination stop!
I know you already do, but I felt I needed to say it anyway.... Continue to enjoy every month at the Morro Bay Library!
Please share this last newsletter (see link below) with your Friends and family who would like to know 'What is Happening at the Morro Bay Library.'
P.S. - Please take time to check all the links behind the pictures and emojis.... et al! (Especially at the end....) My last gift to you!
