How lucky are we to have the Morro Bay Library in our community? It is the place for us to go, read, discuss what we read, find more to read, and attend dynamic free programs that enhance our lives! 

I am so excited to share the following with you. We are not only bringing back one of our most popular local authors (Sue McGinty) to join us for a very special workshop experience, but we are reading and then discussing one of our selected Summer Series books with the author (Ryan Gattis)! Check out the section on Local Authors at the Library below to learn more! 

We also have another amazing Friday Featured Speakers program when we bring back by popular demand, Deborah Howe. Details below under Featured Speakers

One of our Library Special Events this month features popular Special to the TriTribune Article on San Salvador Replica Shipbune Columnist of Times Past, Dan Krieger who will be talking about the San Salvador Replica Ship. 

Library Book SalePlease support the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Morro Bay Library on Saturday, September 24. Members Only from 9:00 a.m. - 10 a.m. get special early entrance in to the sale (you can also join at the door). The public sale is from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Lastly, do you know anybody who does not have a Library card yet? Especially a child? If so, this month you caSan Luis Obispo Children's Museumn sign up a child for their free library card and each child will receive a free pass to the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum! How exciting is that?!

Join us for our Wednesdays Local and Visiting Authors Series. We have two amazing author programs for you to enjoy this month! 
Sue McGinty
Wednesday, September 14 from 10 a.m. - Noon  come join us for a verMurder in Safe Haven y special Workshop on "From Nancy Drew to Bella Kowalski: My Journey from Mystery Reader to Mystery Writer" with Local Mystery Author Sue McGinty. Virtually every fiction writer began her literary journey with a childhood trip to the local library. Sue McGinty's began when a perceptive Detroit librarian handed her a Nancy Drew mystery saying, "I think  you will like this." Thank  goodness for us, because we now have the opportunity to enjoy Sue's amazing works! Join us for this very special event! 
 
Ryan Gattis - picture by Sam TenneyYou are invited to a special book discussion event "In Conversation with Ryan Gattis" California Author of "All Involved" on Wednesday, September 21 from 10 a.m. - Noon. Author, Ryan Gattis will discuss the difficulties and successes of the two and half year research process, which included sitting down with former Latino group members, firefighters, nurses and L.A. citizens who lived through the 1992 riots. A reading of the book, and a conversation about an era that still powerfully resonates today will follow. Participants are encouraged to read his book prior to the event.

All Involved Book CoverThe novel has won the American Library Association's Alex Award and the Award for Noir of the Year in France. Set to be translated into 11 languages, its film rights have been acquired by HBO. You do not want to miss this exciting opportunity! 
Friday Featured Speakers Program
Deborah HoweJoin us for our Friday Featured Speakers Series on Friday, September 30 from 10:15 a.m. - Noon when we bring back the popular, Deborah Howe, CHom, CST, LMT, who will discuss "Homeopathic Remedies for Combating Colds & Flus." Cold & Flu

Learn which homeopathic remedies will help you alleviate cold and flu symptoms. Discussion will include how to be prepared at the first sign of flu; and, which flu strains are most likely to show up in the 2016 - 2017 season.

Books (for the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at our book group session. You will need to check out the 4th Wednesdays Mystery Readers selection on your own. If you are not present when the books are handed out at our book group sessions, please be sure and check with staff to see if there are extra copies in the back room.... otherwise, you will need to order the books on your own. This way you can be prepared to discuss with us at our next session!
