Hi <<First Name>>,
Welcome to the New Year! May it bring you everything your heart desires!
This month I would like to dedicate this newsletter to long time Morro Bay Library patron and book group participant Priscilla Burrus. Priscilla was a lover of reading. Anything with a historical premise was always her preference. She was also an amazing quilter. When we hosted author, Earlene Fowler at the Morro Bay Library, Priscilla brought all her quilting friends too, and made it the largest participant attended event in our history! Priscilla brought with her the most positive outlook on life. Unfortunately, cancer befell her last year. Even with it, she refused to let the light in her dim. Her love of family, faith, and joy in living shined through in everything she did. She came to us proudly with her bald head and lost weight and declared she would beat it by living another day. Unfortunately, she lost her fight on December 13, 2016. Cancer may have taken her, but her positivity will live with us for years to come! Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Last month I brought in the December newsletter to the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group and gave a tutorial to the participants present on all the different information that was available within the newsletter that wasn't always obvious at first glance. As an example, did you know that if you click on the pictures it takes you to a link that will give you more information on the topic being discussed or maybe an article you might find interesting? Sometimes something that is underlined will be a specific link to someone's webpage or email or Facebook page. Other times I might provide movie trailers or interesting articles that are linked to the picture - all you have to do is click on the picture or the underlined word. Either way, my intention is to give you the most information possible as conveniently as possible. Try clicking on the various links..... you might enjoy where you are going.....
Hopefully, your electronic device for reading this newsletter (phone/computer) also allows you to experience the interactive play that this newsletter also provides. My goal is to not only inform, but to engage you in the experience of wanting to be apart of something special happening each month at your Morro Bay Library!
Speaking of exciting.....this month on Saturday, January 28 enjoy the first of the year Morro Bay Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Morro Bay Library. Members only Sale (You Can Even Join at the Door!) 9 - 10 a.m. - Public Sale 10 am - 1 p.m., $3 Bag Sale, 12 - 1 p.m. You don't want to miss this special event which not only fills your personal library but supports your Morro Bay Library!
Last year, was my 10th Anniversary providing programs at the Morro Bay Library. For the last 8 of those years I have kept meticulous participant visit statistics to our programs. As an example, in 2010 we had 803 participant visits to our programs for that year. The closest we had come to that year was in 2011 with 704 participant visits - which obviously wasn't that close at all. I am happy to say that in our 10th Anniversary year (2016) we have almost met our highest participant visits for our program in six years with 798 participant visits to our programs! Thank you everyone for your love of our programs and your participation. Your active participation, as well as library book check-outs, contributes to library statistics overall. This allows your Morro Bay Library to be the fourth largest in the San Luis Obispo County library system!
Mystery Readers: We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each Month from 10 a.m. - Noon beginning January 11. More details below.
On Friday, January 13 all SLO County Libraries will be closed for Staff Training. Please also note the Monday observance Holidays of January 2 (New Years) and January 16 (Martin Luther King).
Please share the newsletter (see link below) with your Friends and family who would like to know 'What is Happening at the Morro Bay Library' this month.
Thank you and enjoy this month at the Morro Bay Library!
