Advancing Hoosier Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Dear friends -

Here in Indiana, the next decade is ours to shape. Governor Mike Pence and Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb set out a vision - for Hoosiers to be at the forefront of solving the world's 21st century challenges.

This commitment to strengthening and accelerating Hoosier innovation and entrepreneurship centers on six key strategies, which we will highlight for the next six weeks, taking a look at where Indiana is and where we're going.

The key to growth and catapulting Indiana onto the world's stage is collaboration. Across the state, we see Hoosiers tackling new challenges in advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, life sciences and technology through industry-led public-private partnerships.

Through this initiative, we will align efforts across regions, across industries and between the public and private sectors to continue building on this momentum. Our team at the IEDC has been engaging with industry, research and university leadership in every corner of the state and we’re inspired by your response and your excitement to move Indiana forward.

This is an opportunity to come together and work toward a common goal. Together, we will develop the world’s next revolutionary idea here in Indiana.

Building Momentum in Indiana
...if you're a community or industry leader, you'll find support and matching grants to help spur advancements and create vibrant communities that foster new ideas.

“Basic and applied research by universities conducted in partnership with Indiana results in innovation that is good for humankind, and in employment that is essential to our region. We look forward to partnering with the state in this new, exciting initiative.”

Rev. John I. Jenkins, CSC
President, University of Notre Dame

Industry-Led Hoosier Innovation
Indiana is a leader in research and development because we aren’t hesitant to forge new paths. Industry-lead initiatives and public-private partnerships are driving innovation forward, and through Indiana's $1 billion innovation and entrepreneurship initiative, we will shine a spotlight on your successes and provide the support needed to propel that momentum. Through collaboration, Hoosier leaders, innovators, researchers and students will advance the future of their fields.
Hoosiers in South Bend are researching and testing a wide range of applications that involve turbomachinery technology at the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Lab, which opened this summer. In collaboration with public and private partners, their work is advancing the development of massive gas turbine engine technologies used by commercial and military aircrafts, power plants, and the oil and gas industries.
The $50 million Indiana Manufacturing Institute opened this summer and is a result of a public-private partnership to advance composites manufacturing. Based at the Purdue Research Park, the institute is dedicated to R&D on innovating new manufacturing practices,  including composite materials, that will change how we build the world.
Located in Westgate Tech Park, The Battery Innovation Center near Crane develops, tests and consults on next-generation energy storage systems. BIC also provides space and resources for businesses to advance battery-related projects, showing what's possible through public-private collaboration.
Sector-focused organizations like TechPoint, Conexus Indiana, AgriNovus Indiana, Energy Systems Network and BioCrossroads bring business leaders together to advance their industries by collaborating and connecting ideas in technology, logistics and manufacturing, agbiosciences, energy technology and life sciences.

"The Battery Innovation Center is thrilled by the Governor's announcement of this significant commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. The BIC has been an example of how a public investment to support next generation technology can multiply the impact of those funds in the entrepreneurial community. Ultimately, we anticipate that same kind of exponential affect here, spurring a new season of economic development in Indiana."

David Roberts
President, Battery Innovation Center
