At Ascent, we are continually developing our education to stay current on the latest research and treatments so we can provide you the best possible care. This means there are always new treatments and therapies available to you as we keep putting our knowledge into practice. We have a number of exciting new services happening at the clinic this year, a few of which we highlight below. We can't possible share everything in one newsletter so we'd love for you to connect with us on Facebook and Instagram to keep the conversation going. We are also really excited to be hosting a Stair Climb Fundraiser for an organization dear to our hearts. It is one of our clinic's core values to be giving back both locally and globally and we hope to see you out on October 16 for our Stair Climb Fundraiser.

In health,

1. Spine Climb Fundraiser  #RISEUP

The Spine Climb is in support of World Spine Care – an innovative organization that works to provide high-level musculoskeletal care to people with limited access to health care in developing countries. In many of these countries if people can’t work, even due to medical reasons, they are left destitute and unable to provide for themselves or their families.

People of all ages and athletic ability are welcome to register. The event will feature two participation options including a Fun Climb and the Endurance Climb which is a competition for the most sets of stairs completed during the event. The day will be filled with entertainment and prizes from event sponsors and hosts.

2.  Concussion Management

Gone are - or should be - the days when ‘getting your bell rung’ during physical activity is ignored or considered ‘part of the game’.  While awareness about the serious nature of concussions is rising there is still a gap in the education around the process of properly reporting, diagnosing, rehabilitating, and making return-to-play decisions following a concussion. At Ascent we have been seeing rewarding results with our concussion management program.  Read one patient's story about recovering from a concussion. “Having a role in what I needed to do to aid and quicken the recovery was important to me....”

3. Naturopathic Skin Care

Did you know you can get acupuncture and injections by our naturopath to improve the look and feel of your skin? Dr. Trudy Strasser offers facial rejuvenation acupuncture and mesotherapy. Mesotherapy is a superficial injection of natural ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid gel used to fill fine lines, wrinkles, crow's feet, chin lines, lip lines, furrows and nasolabial folds.

The best news is that these skin care treatments are covered by your insurance if you have Naturopathy coverage in your policy.

4. Sport Specialist In the Clinic

This summer Dr. Roger Menta passed his prestigious Sport Sciences residency exam making him one of the few sport specialists in the city. Dr. Menta provides evidence-based treatments focusing on injury rehabilitation and prevention. His focus includes sport specific training and performance enhancement, running analysis, and many other aspects related to sport training and wellness. Dr. Menta was also recently certified in Function Range Conditioning (FRC).  FRC training is widely being used by  professional sporting organizations to aid in rehabilitation, to mitigate injury risk, and to improve sport performance.

If you are looking to enhance your level of sport you will definitely want to see Dr. Menta!
5. Running Seminar
We are partnering with The Running Clinic to host a running seminar. Built from the latest scientific evidence, this presentation questions many current unjustified practices. Covering workout planning, biomechanics, flexibility, plantar orthoses, and shoes the aim is to help you prevent injuries ... and run faster!

Featured Service - Registered Massage Therapy

Fall is often the busiest time in the clinic for massage therapy as patient's get back in the swing of things after the summer months and look to use up the rest of their benefits. Our massage team has recently been joined by Elena Baker who is quickly building a high reputation for her massages. Our massage team also includes Gordon, Veronica, Tammi and Linda who have a combined history of 35 years of working at Ascent! They continue to exceed their patient's expectations with their expertise and collaborative care; they have also added new techniques and specialties to their services, including cupping - which was thrown into the spotlight during the Olympics. Book with Linda or Veronica if you want to give cupping a try. Another fall favourite is the hot stone massage provided by Tammi.

Don't wait until December to book your massage appointments - it can be hard to get in then :)
Flu season is around the corner. Ascent offers a Natural Flu Clinic with immunity booster shots available on Thursdays through our Naturopath.
