The NSW Department of Education is seeking nominations for the 2015 Premier's Awards for Public Service. The awards recognise excellence in the delivery of public services to the NSW community by individual employees and teams.

This year, the award categories are:

  • Strengthening the economy and making NSW a better place to do business
  • Making NSW a better place to live
  • Providing better support and opportunities to the vulnerable
  • Building stronger and safer communities.
  • Customer focussed delivery.

School in the spotlight: Tibooburra Outback Public School


Tibooburra Outback Public School is situated 345km north of Broken Hill, serving a small community of approximately 80 people in the Corner Country. It is part of the Far West Network of schools. There are currently seven students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The school aims to provide quality learning through high expectations, quality teaching, professional learning and building a strong educational community. The school works with families to develop each child to their full potential, with an active Parents and Citizens Association and many other links to the Tibooburra community.
It also regularly collaborates with White Cliffs and Wanaaring Public Schools and Broken Hill School of the Air. 

Local services include two stores supplying a wide range of goods, two freight services weekly, twice weekly Australia Post services from Broken Hill, an Aboriginal Lands Council office, a health service, a National Parks office and museum and a police station. There are two hotels with accommodation. Within the school grounds there is a community pool.
