Make a difference in a rural or remote school, just like Josh O’Shea from Narrabri has done!
Josh’s journey started on the coast, where he was working as a chef before he saw an opportunity to switch to teaching. Josh applied for one of the NSW Department of Education’s scholarships for future teachers and hasn’t looked back.
‘The opportunity came, and I found an ad in the paper for scholarships for teaching, and applied and was lucky enough to win a scholarship.’
Teaching at Wee Waa High School has enabled Josh to benefit from great incentives and benefits offered to teachers in rural and remote schools, like subsidised rental accommodation.
‘We really like the house. It’s a three bedroom place. Very, very handy to come out here and save money if that’s what you want to do.’
For Josh, teaching in a rural school was a giant and positive leap up in his career. Rural and remote NSW have so much to offer, including great schools where you can enhance your career, just like Josh did.
