Teacher spotlight: Eddie Woo

Eddie Woo
We meet Eddie Woo and learn more about his passion for mathematics!

teach.NSW sat down with Eddie Woo, Head Teacher Mathematics at Cherrybrook Technology High School and the creator of the famous WooTube maths videos. We asked him for some insight both into mathematics teaching as a career and what it has been like rising to teacher fame.

Through his `Wootube’ tutorials and widespread media exposure, Eddie has become well known for his enthusiasm for mathematics and his ability to help students fall in love with the subject.

Eddie pointed to two different ‘ingredients’ that help students come to a ‘love and mastery of mathematics’. ‘Firstly, being passionate for your subject is obviously a big deal. When you stand at the front of the room, or beside a student, you are the lens through which the student perceives the subject. It is essential that you demonstrate the love you’ve acquired for your subject. What you convey to them often has an unconscious or subconscious impact.’

Read more about Eddie’s career and his passion for mathematics. While at it, why not consider applying for a STEM Scholarship for Science and Mathematics? (closing soon!)
