YuKonstruct poised to win global makerspace contest!

WHITEHORSE - YuKonstruct is close to winning the Instructables Makerspace Contest.

After being in the lead from the competition's start two months ago, YuKonstruct recently slipped into second place in the Instructables Makerspace Contest. YuKonstruct is competiting against makerspaces from around the world for a grand prize of $20,000 worth of equipment, including a laser cutter, 3D printer and welder.

Makerspaces, also known as hackerspaces, are spaces where people can share tools and collaborate to build and invent their own creations. The Instructables contest includes 43 makerspaces from Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, India, Egypt, Mexico and Columbia.

The website hosting the contest,, is a place where makers can document their projects and share instructions on how to make everything from simple recipes to complicated technology. YuKonstruct has already benefited greatly from Instructables' Build Night program which has sponsored multiple events at the Whitehorse makerspace.

The contest ends August 31 and YuKonstruct members are hoping for a big final push to put them back on top of the current leaders, Eureka Factory, a makerspace team from Tampa Bay, Florida.

The goal of the contest is to document as many projects as possible with step-by-step instructions (instructables). YuKonstruct has already come together as a strong community to document almost 100 projects. You can see all of YuKonstruct's current contest entries at
YuKonstruct will be hosting a mini hackathon to help members publish as many instructables as possible before the contest closes.
