Keep your eyes peeled for the secret hint about the new newsletter

alex emails

Short one today because we're on a spring break adventure!

While we're on the road I'm missing my daily blueberry buttermilk smoothie. (It's so easy. And so good for you. And does not taste like the ground.)

I ordered waxy craft sticks and junior Mad Libs for our trip. I'll be back with a thorough review of each from the kids. We recently hit it out of the park with the classic favorite Perfection. My girls (ages 6 and 5), who normally stick with one activity for about 20 minutes tops, have become totally spellbound by it. And they're getting pretty good! Even Charlie (2) has fun setting up the little bright yellow shapes and squealing when the timer goes off and the tray pops. Bonus: self storage and no batteries!

One of my favorite trips ever is to Lake Powell with Nate's side of the family. These photos almost make me feel sunburned :)

Some great kids books in case you're sick of all of yours.

Here are two home runs for dinner this week: Jen's sweet potato tacos and my fried chicken. Oh, and simply the best chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

"You are positively enormous. you have so many cells that if you formed all the DNA in your body into a single file strand, it would stretch ten billion miles – to beyond Pluto. Think of it. There is enough of you to leave the Solar System. You are, in the most literal sense, cosmic."

What I see when I hold Charlie.

Don't forget! Next week, Alex Emails will be getting a new name and a new look! No action required – just don't send me to spam! I'm super excited for this new newsletter. It will be similar in spirit to Alex Emails, but I'm hoping it will add more value to your inbox, with delightful links in a more organized format.

Today's tip: take the jumping photo!
Listen, they're cheesy, they're rarely perfect, but they're super fun. And if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong! My secret to a good jumping photo is to have everyone in the group hold hands and kick their feet. Try to take a few photos "rapid-fire" style if you can. If you're shooting film, ask your group to jump two or three times and try to shoot it when they're at the highest point in the air. Good luck!

alex quotes

“Maybe the desire to make something beautiful is the piece of God that is inside each of us.”
– Mary Oliver

“It is not enough to hope that the next generation solves this. Things will not get better until we teach them how. It is on us to grow men who do not exploit the labor of women. Straight kids who understand and work toward protections for gay people. And White kids who understand that it is not about having a Black friend. It is about divesting completely from racist systems.”
– Cornelius Minor

“There's only one age: alive.”
– Agnes Varda
