Happy Christmas to all and to all a good nap.

"Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire."

–Gustav Mahler

This is my all-time favorite Nativity story. I said it last year and I'll say it again – I love seeing a midwife portrayed (even briefly) at Christ's birth. Something has always told me there must have been someone there to help Mary deliver Him.

At this time last year, I was days away from the tiniest trip Paris to shoot an actual dream wedding, and already dreaming of the upcoming visit to Germany and France I'd been planning for months, scheduled for June 2020. I'm finally letting my brain wander into 2021 and 2022 – where, for the first time in my life, I have literally nothing planned. This story about the restoration of the historic organ of Notre Dame got me daydreaming about traveling again, and of course Paris is at the top of my list.

Gabrielle Blair and Jamie Beck are my two favorite "Frenchfluencers" to follow on Instagram.

If you're still gift shopping, here's a list of really good food subscriptions.

How do you consume your news? I used to listen to it, but whenever I get into an audiobook (currently, The Body: An Occupant's Guide), I prefer to read it. Somewhere I found The New Paper and let me tell you. It is a breath of fresh air. Their mission: "overcoming sensationalism by spreading factual news." It has been great so far. Definitely recommend.

The daisiest dress there ever was (on sale!) and a link to my Christmas dress, because one person asked 😉

My Modern Met's best photos of 2020 from around the world.

For the photography nerds: the world's longest exposure photograph ever – eight years long! – was made with a beer can pinhole camera. By accident, of course.

"You might say, I'm not the creative type. Think again."

I have a feeling Get Back is going to be one of those movies I watch literally fifty times. If you haven't seen the promo yet, SEE IT. Here's the link again because I just really need to talk about this with everyone I know.

Harry Styles' Tiny Desk Concert is on my list of things to watch after the kids are in bed. (Funny story: yesterday we were listening to We Are Never Getting Back Together in the car, and I told Eleanor that Taylor Swift writes songs about her real life, and this song was about her old boyfriend, Harry Styles, who is the guy that sings Watermelon Sugar. You guys, she was stunned. It was very cute.)

My friend Jenna recently taught me about fairy rings. Nature is magic. That is all.

This will be my last Alex Emails of 2020! Maybe I say this too often, but I really love writing this newsletter. I always imagine when I press "send" that each of you gets a little smile on your face when you see it in your inbox. Thank you so much for reading. It's the cheesiest thing ever but I LOVE YOU. I really do. You are amazing, you are just the thing we need in this world, and you are quite literally divine.

"When one door closes, another opens, but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us."

–Alexandra Graham Bell
