An Update from The Children's Center

The State of South Carolina rolled out a new online tool for parents who are searching for Pre-K programs in their area. You can find it with this link. We were honored to have the opportunity to share in this launch with a segment on WTOC highlighting our Butterfly Classroom and their teachers, Ms. Nyisha and Ms. Beverly.

Also coming this month, The Children's Center will be the Community Partner for Lean Ensemble's production of Cry It Out. If you get the chance, please come see this outstanding production!

It's a Party!

The Children's Center's first Annual Celebration Dinner will be held at Sea Pines Country Club on May 16th - you won't want to miss it! What are we celebrating? Just about everything!  Within the walls of The Children's Center are the hopes, dreams, and loads of potential for the future. Our children come here for care, but leave here filled with the important skills and developmental tools to succeed in life.

We're also celebrating thousands of children who are ready to enter kindergarten after attending The Children's Center, hundreds of working parents who are able to afford quality early education, generous donors who have made this all possible, and a 53-year legacy of quality care.

Feel free to visit our event page on the website for all the details. Click this link to learn more. We would love to see you there!

Meet Our Staff

It's true!  Caterpillars do grow wings and fly!  We see proof every day in our three year old room with Ms. Osyana Roman as lead teacher.  "Ms. Osy," as her students call her, is always a bundle of energy and her children benefit because of her creativity and positive attitude.  She has been a teacher at our Center for almost two years.  She received her Associate Degree in Early Childhood at Valencia College.  Her husband serves in the US military.

Ms. Osyana is diligent in offering her children a wide variety of opportunities to learn shapes, colors and numbers.  Just walk by her room and you can see an active group of students learning to use scissors, playing in centers using their imagination or singing and dancing to the music.  The parents of her students say she is a "gift."  They trust her ability to help their children develop and prepare for PreK.  The Children's Center is honored to call her our own!

Never Too Early

When your baby begins care outside your home, he enters a whole new world and leaves behind your small, intimate world. If you need to go back to work, it may be difficult to leave your baby with someone else. It's not unusual to cry at your desk for their first week back at work because you miss your little one. It is a natural instinct to want to take care of your baby full-time, but that option is unrealistic for many parents today.

To make the best decision for you and your baby, start by sorting through your priorities. For his first year especially, the establishment of a strong attachment is foundational to his development on all levels - physical, emotional, and mental. If you cannot be with them every day all day long, he can thrive if another person cares for and responds to him in a loving way.

Take your time and find the best fit for you and your baby. Things to consider include:

Quality of Care - Research suggests that the main priority for your baby's care for his first year is to have regular, loving interaction with a stable environment.

Environment - Is the child care atmosphere clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming? Do the babies have space and support to move and to explore?

Logistics - Certain practicalities are significant factors to consider when choosing a caregiver for your baby.

Research - The process of educating yourself about the various child care options in your area can help you get a clearer idea of your priorities. Check references and recommendations from peers, and read online reviews. Make an on-site visit, and interview the individual caretaker or the administrators and staff.

Your Role - You can actively participate in your child's care by paying attention to your child and by noticing the environment when you drop him off and pick him up every day. Ask questions about your child's day.

We welcome new parents and new families at The Children's Center. Call to schedule a visit and come see this a special place, where children grow and develop, discover and engage every day.
