Naturally PoCo Exhibit Grand Opening

We would like to thank everyone who joined us for the Grand Opening of our new exhibit, Naturally PoCo. It was so wonderful to see so much support within our community for this new exhibit!

We would like to thank all of the community photographers who are featured in this exhibit for your enthusiastic participation! Your passion for Port Coquitlam and photography really shows through.

Thank you also to the City of Port Coquitlam for collaborating with us on this exhibit. Additional thanks to Patrick McCarthy of Tri-Cities Community TV for your collaboration on the featured photographer interviews, to Brad Nickason of Nickason Communication Design for your exhibit poster design, and to our fabulous employees and volunteers who made all of this possible!

Naturally PoCo will be on display until the end of this year and we hope you will come by the museum and explore the naturally beauty of Port Coquitlam's seasons with us!

PoCo Community Foundation Granting Ceremony
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the PoCo Community Foundation for awarding us one of their community grants! PoCo Heritage Director, Brian Hubbard accepted our award at the Granting Ceremony on June 6th.

This funding was awarded to us for the purpose  of purchasing a large format archival scanner so that we can start digitizing our map and oversized archive record collection. Once digitized many of these records will be made available on our website through our online collection database, scheduled to go live later this summer!

Explores Port Coquitlam's natural beauty through the lenses of community photographers!

Every year the residents of Port Coquitlam submit their photos to our exhibit collaborators, the City of Port Coquitlam, for publication in the City's "Naturally PoCo" Community Calendar. Our Naturally PoCo exhibit displays a selection of the hundreds of photos that were submitted to the City throughout the year of 2018, alongside photographs and artifacts from our collections that explore photography over the last 110 years.

Come explore Port Coquitlam's beautiful seasons with us!

Canada 150 - "Vulnerability to Village"
PoCo Heritage Exhibit in City Hall

Last year PoCo Heritage was invited by United Way Avenues of Change to join their "Vulnerability to Village" project on the Northside of Port Coquitlam, alongside Irvine Elementary School. This project and their associated #HiNeighbour campaign aimed to strengthen the sense of community in this neighbourhood, and resulted in the creation of Little Free Libraries all around Port Coquitlam.

PoCo Heritage went into the kindergarten classrooms of Irvine Elementary armed with copies of archive photos and watercolour paint and invited the children to add a little colour to Port Coquitlam's history! The resulting pieces of art are currently decorating the base poles of many of the Little Free Libraries around the city, and are now also on display in City Hall.

This display series, originally created last year to celebrate Canada 150, aims to connect the students of local schools to history and culture by providing a creative space for direct engagement between art and heritage. If you would like your class to be featured in upcoming City Hall exhibits please contact us at

Book Donations

Our Little Free Library has been so popular that it is hard to keep it stocked with books!

If you have any books that you are willing to donate to the Little Free Library please drop them off at the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives, Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In The News
Unfortunately many of the Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam Little Free Libraries have been burnt down and vandalized in recent weeks. If you would like to contribute to getting the libraries rebuilt, or have books you would like to donate to get them restocked please let us know! We will get those resources to the right people.

Check out the news coverage on the vandalism from CityNews and Global News

"Sarah and Michael Explore Port Coquitlam" Book Sale

We are selling copies of our collaborative children's history book in the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives!

The books are $15 each, and this money is being used to create bursaries to further strengthen our community by helping to fund high school students who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education in culture, heritage, or the arts.
