Goodbye & Staff Changes

This month we say goodbye to our Museum Coordinator, Kanchan Lal, and our Programs Assistant, Laura Di Nardo. We wish them both the best and hope to see them around. Kanchan has been an invaluable part of PoCo Heritage this past year and has done amazing work steering us through these troubling times. She has accepted a position with the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Laura will be sorely missed and is soon flying back to Ontario to finish her studies.

Alex Code, our current Programs Assistant, will be staying to take on Kanchan's role. He is looking forward to working with our members and community to continue to preserve and share PoCo's diverse culture and heritage.

Remembrance Day

Aboriginal Veterans
November 11th marks the day we pause and remember those who have fallen in the line of duty, but did you know that November 8th marks the National Aboriginal Veterans Day? Often overlooked, many Aboriginal Canadians have served and many have fallen while serving their country. Veterans Affairs Canada records show that more than 7,000 Aboriginal people served in the First and Second Word Wars as well as in the Korean War. If you have time, consider viewing this site which pays tribute to and names those Aboriginal Canadians who haven fallen.

Memorial Tree Ornaments
As part of both Remembrance Day and this year's 8th Annual Christmas Tree Festival, we are asking for you to submit photos of loved ones that have passed. We will then turn your photos into ornaments to be hung on full-sized Memorial Trees. If you wo
uld like to submit a photo please send it to along with a name before November 17th. Please ensure it is as high quality as possible, preferably an original file or scan and not a picture of a picture.

Christmas Tree Festival

This year we’re keeping our bubbles small and our trees too!
Join us in celebrating our 8th Annual Christmas Tree Festival by creating a tiny tree! This year with COVID-19 restrictions and limited indoor space we have decided to ask YOU and YOUR POD (families, businesses and community groups etc.) to create a small 18 inch tree to be featured in a large festive Christmas Tree Display in the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives windows.

All tree entries will be featured in the display and posted on PoCo Heritage’s web page and social media platforms. As per previous years, this is a contest! The tree with the most community votes will be awarded with a prize and eternal bragging rights.
