The 'F WORDS' - Officially Opened!

On February 22nd, the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives officially opened its new exhbit, "The 'F Words': The story of out city's early years"!

The doors opened and the public were welcomed to tour the new exhibit and learn more about the travesties that made the City of Port Coquitlam so resilient. Event attendees also got to hear about the process behind the making of the exhibit from the authour and illustrator of the 'F Words', Meg McLaughlin and Brad Nickason.

This new exhibit would not have been possible without the help and assistance of many! The PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives would like to thank all those who contributed into making the 'F Words' a reality! Your time, consideration and support in keeping Port Coquitlam's heritage alive is greatly appreciated!

To book a guided tour of the exhibit, please contact info@pocoheritage.org

 Heritage Week Success

During the month of February, museums all across Canada celebrated Heritage Week 2020! This year, the Poco Heritage Museum and Archives participated in heritage week by hosting two events in collaboration with CISS (Community Integration Services Society) and the City of PoCo.

On February 19th, the Museum and Archives hosted a panel discussion about the story of the 'Saving of Melissa Park Lodge', Port Coquitlam's only heritage home. The discussion was lively and the public learnt more about how heritage homes can be preserved and their importance to the community. On February 20th, CISS hosted an open house at Melissa Park Lodge where community members got the opportunity to view the house and the completed renovations since its establishment as a heritage home.

A big thank you to Tri City Community TV who filmed our heritage event on February 19th. The full event will be posted on their youtube channel soon!

We are looking to recruit new volunteers!

We are wanting to develop a lot of new museum events and programming (trivia nights, murder mysteries, movie nights, book clubs, and more!) as well as fun and interactive exhibits - and we could use your help!

If you are interested in sharing your creativity with us by helping to develop some of this programming please check out the four fun, creative positions below:

If you are interested or would like more information please contact Kanchan Lal, Museum Coordinator at info@pocoheritage.org

Book Donations

Our Little Free Library has been so popular that it is hard to keep it stocked with books!

If you have any books that you are willing to donate to the Little Free Library please drop them off at the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives, Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

"Sarah and Michael Explore Port Coquitlam" Book Sale

We are selling copies of our collaborative children's history book in the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives!

The books are $15 each, and this money is being used to create bursaries to further strengthen our community by helping to fund high school students who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education in culture, heritage, or the arts.
