Tree Selfie Contest
The sun is out, the snow is melting, and springtime is almost upon us! Celebrate the change in seasons with us by participating in our month long Tree Selfie Contest!

For the entire month of March post a picture or selfie with your favourite Port Coquitlam tree. Make sure to tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and use the hashtag #MyPoCoTree to win one of our weekly floral prizes!

Pose with your favourite tree to win one of these prizes! Winners will be chosen by random draw at the end of every week in March.

Our favourite PoCo Tree is the old Routley family apple tree near Wilson Ave and Donald Street. This apple tree is over 100 years old and is still fruit bearing! To learn more about this tree visit our current exhibit, The Secret Life of Trees.
Movie Night at the Museum
Thank you to everyone who came out to our inaugural Movie Night at the Museum! We screened the 1992 animated classic, "FernGully: The Last Rainforest", and it certainly was a magical evening!

Join us for our next Movie Night on Thursday March 28th where we will be watching the BBC documentary, "Oak Tree: Nature's Greatest Survivor"! For full details see our event listing below.

BC Heritage Week

Thank you to everyone who came out, especially in the snow, to one of our many Heritage Week events, from February 18-24th!

We celebrated "The Tie That Binds" in Port Coquitlam with a Chineses New Year celebration ushering in the Year of the Pig, two City Hall tours, and a Downtown Walking Tour. We are looking forward to next year's Heritage Week celebration!

Canada 150 - "Vulnerability to Village"
PoCo Heritage Exhibit in City Hall

Last year PoCo Heritage was invited by United Way Avenues of Change to join their "Vulnerability to Village" project on the Northside of Port Coquitlam, alongside Irvine Elementary School. This project and their associated #HiNeighbour campaign aimed to strengthen the sense of community in this neighbourhood, and resulted in the creation of Little Free Libraries all around Port Coquitlam.

PoCo Heritage went into the kindergarten classrooms of Irvine Elementary armed with copies of archive photos and watercolour paint and invited the children to add a little colour to Port Coquitlam's history! The resulting pieces of art are currently decorating the base poles of many of the Little Free Libraries around the city, and are now also on display in City Hall.

This display series, originally created last year to celebrate Canada 150, aims to connect the students of local schools to history and culture by providing a creative space for direct engagement between art and heritage. If you would like your class to be featured in upcoming City Hall exhibits please contact us at

Book Donations

Our Little Free Library has been so popular that it is hard to keep it stocked with books!

If you have any books that you are willing to donate to the Little Free Library please drop them off at the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives, Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

"Sarah and Michael Explore Port Coquitlam" Book Sale

We are selling copies of our collaborative children's history book in the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives!

The books are $15 each, and this money is being used to create bursaries to further strengthen our community by helping to fund high school students who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education in culture, heritage, or the arts.
