The holiday baking season is now upon us!  What a great opportunity for youth to learn the science of ingredients, and to share baking with others in their community!  Each month we provide ideas and recipes, so be sure to sign up for our newsletter and share it with your friends!

Huge Scary Spiders

These Huge Scary Spiders are bound to be a Halloween favorite as they crawl across the serving plate!  This whole grain cookie recipe is fun for all ages to make and was provided by The Sugar Association for the Dough Sculpting 101 DVD.

How We Get Sugar

Have you ever wondered where sugar comes from? Would you be surprised to know that it comes from Beets and large stalks called Sugar Cane?  How is sugar extracted from these plants? Check out these helpful resources that explain how sugar gets from field to table!

The Home Baking Association was graced by South Carolina hospitality at its recent annual meeting.  We so extend our thanks to Charleston and Columbia plus heartfelt best wishes as they pick up the pieces from flooding. 
Southeast baking includes a wealth of October harvests. Corn is a key crop and cornmeal a staple ingredient.  The Health Benefits of Corn deserves a shout-out thanks to North American Millers Association.
Southern baking simply can’t be beat (literally!) with everyday meals.  Martha White gets the scoop with Butter Milk Corn Cakes and Southern Cornbread
Southern self-rising wheat flour is one of the secrets to float-off-the-plate biscuits. Renwood Mills, Newton, NC shares this winning Southern Biscuit recipe, the work of Nikki Miller-Ka, a local food blogger.  They’re perfect for fall meals. Check out Nikki's recipe here!

Crumb or pound cake, molasses gingersnaps or sandies, and sweet potato or pecan pies all grace the southern dessert plates.  You’ll find true southern versions here and here as well
